New hw50s is a real shooter in .177

Just got it from pyramyd two weeks ago. What a shooter ! Started breaking it in trying 10.34 jsb , 8.64 ftt , baracudas and 8.44 jsb. At first ( 100 shots or so ) it would not hold 1 inch groups at 25 yards using cross sticks from my back steps. It showed no real preference for any of these pellets. After about 200 shots it began to shoot better with the ftt pellets.I shot them for about another 100 shots over the next few days. The gun slowly but surely began to shoot good groups. The velocity finally evened out and was getting an es of about 8-10 fps for 5 shots. I was expecting about 10.5 to 11 foot pounds from this gun. It never did smoke or sound like it was dieseling and now it shoots the ftt 8.64 pellets at an average of 770 for 11.4 ft pounds ! I went back after 500-600 shots to the other pellets I had tried before and was delighted that it liked the 10.34 jsb pellets even better than the ftt pellets. (they are actually aa pellets but I know jsb makes them ) It shoots them average of 715 for 11.7 ft. pounds. I do not know why it shoots so strong but it is pretty hard to cock ( I am 70 and had shoulder surgery last December ) But I am using that arm to cock it and it is not bad just more than I would expect for 11.5 or so ft. pounds. The barrel is short though and that make a difference. The best news is that after just two weeks I have taken more pics with my phone of groups than I ever have before . Best so far was (all 5-shot groups) .44 at 39 yd., .68 at 50 yd., .75 at 60 yd., and 1.13 in. at 75 yd. I did not know a spring piston rifle was capable of shooting this kind of groups with me behind the gun. Keep in mind that these are the best groups I shot during a 10 day period with about 700-800 pellets. However it shot good groups when I did my part every time . These were just the very best of those. I am delighted with this gun and how close to pcp groups I was able to get.

I shoot the H&N 8.64 grn.also out of my HW 50 and they are accurate. That’s what I broke the gun in with too.Mine didn’t diesel either when it was new. But what is Weird Is that when I first started shooting it, it shot with a solid thunk,And after probably just 30 shots it started to buzz a little. But it’s still not hold sensitive and hits where I’m aiming.

I know most are hold sensitive but this one does not seem to be too bad. I shoot off sticks so just lay it on my hand in the same place each time and hold the grip a light firm and it shoots good that way. I am mostly a pcp shooter, but I know the basics of springer shooting . This gun must not be too particular about hold or It would not shoot as well as it does.

My two last bought HW50S's are in .20! One has a Swarovski scope and the other is open sighted. Their serial numbers are pretty far apart but made in 2020 each for AOA.

I had a .177 and .22 got brand new before the New Stock design which is a cutaway buttstock. That new stock may be the reason the new ones like yours and both of mine shoot so well without hold sensitivity similar to most springers that are light.

Both shoot JSB Exact Match Diablo at standard weight: about 13-14 grain pellets. I have not tried yet the Heavy .20 pellets at 15-16 grains, but no .20 in my house is inaccurate.

Here are all my accurate rifles all in .20:

1. D54 .20 recoilless (with scope)

2. HW50S .20 (without scope)

3. HW50S .20 (with scope)

4. HW98 .20 (with scope)

5. HW80 .20 (Left Hand Stock even though I am right handed!) Scoped.

6. HW97K-T .20 (with scope)

I was never disappointed with any of them for accuracy at close and long range using the right rifle for the range. The D54 .20 can hit tomatoes at 105 yards. The others being less powered actually take care of 45 yards easy.

The HW50S today is the most pleasingly comfortable rifle to shoot! It is extremely accurate right out of the box.

Tomatoes at 105 yards offhand right? Since you NEVER shoot from a bench?

That's quite a feat.
