New HUMA Reg - Unexpected (Poor) Performance

Weighing pellets is not going to drop the velocity spread from 35 fps to the teens. I never weigh pellets and the worse spread I see is with cheap Benjamin pellets that are terrible for consistency and still yield below 10 fps spread. At most weighing will help you far down range. Sorting for imperfections will make more of a difference but those are rare in good brands that have been handled well.

Stephan, ship your gun over here to Gabe Rossi or me...either one of us will tune your Streamline to perfection for you at no charge. It is impossible to diagnose your problem long distance, and it can't cost too much to ship it here from Belgium. Ship it UPS Express Saver...and maybe Huub will even help you pay to ship it over here to one of us. 😃

Tuning an airgun is more of an art than a science...its not like just changing the brake pads on your car. At one time, I had my .25 Streamline tuned to shoot the 34 MKII at 895 ft/s with an extreme spread of 4-5 ft/s and a standard deviation of 1.26 if I remember correctly. So your gun should do way better than it is now!

Best regards, Chuck

@DanielIL - I tend to agree with what you said. I'll start weighing when the rifle has been properly tuned in velocity and accuracy.

@tor47 - I'm not a huge fan of statistics, but I also think that we need to consider a number of shots that makes the sample significant enough.

@Chuck - This is a very generous proposal Chuck !
You know, you already helped me a lot when you provided the installation instructions for my new Huma reg !!
If I hand over the tuning to somebody else, what will I learn? I don't want to give up now. I can spend more time on this. Persistence does not always pay off. But it often does. If I go nowhere with this tuning then I'll remember that you are always keen on helping this airgunners community 👍

As suggested by Rj, I tested at higher speeds...

- Got better when shooting at ~913 fps: ES = 16, Std Dev = 4

- And even better when shooting at ~925 fps: ES = 9, Std Dev = 2.9

Next question is: how good or bad will the precision be at that speed. Will check at the indoor range (50m) later this week. Too windy over here these days.

Just giving a quick update to confirm that the precision is awesome with my latest tuning !
Picture here below (6 groups of 5 shots @50 yards with wind <5km/h). 2nd group is slightly less good, just because of poor trigger control.
I'm glad that I pursued my quest for the optimal tuning 🤘 Happy happy I'm happy ! And ready to shoot @100m.
Huma Reg: 125 bar
Ammo : JSB 18.13gr
Velocity : ~915fps

I knew you would get it figured out eventually Stephan...once you get her in the groove the accuracy becomes almost effortless. Some advice now: don't clean that barrel until you see your accuracy decline, and then only a couple dry patches down the bore should bring it back. Another couple thousand pellets through her and she will be seasoned properly like an old cast iron skillet. Good job my friend!

Best wishes, Chuck
