I am posting this as a real newbie in PCP air guns I bought my first PCP rifle less than a year ago, so everything its all new to me. Basically the best resource for learning is this forum. What a great resource it is. So I am posting this for others like myself that have little if any experience. 

I was surprised at how easy and simple the setup and operation of the compressor is. I am running it in my office computer room, it is not loud. I could talk on my cell sitting right next to it. The triple filtration yielded no perceptible water. Just filled 2 Tiger Sharks from 220 to 320 bar. With the time between tanks and allowance to cool both were filled in about 30 minutes. The max temperature that I saw was 159 F. I used about 70/30 coolant to distilled water.

I have read so much about compressors and the problems associated that I was reluctant to get one. Once I decided to get one then the problem was which one. I knew I wanted filtration and auto shutoff. What decided it for me was a review and a really incredible price for the features that it has.

Anyway all those concerns for nothing, at least in my case, and I know I am going to appreciate the convenience. I wish I had not waited so long.

Another Hatsan Lightning happy guy. Great, glad you like yours. I’m very pleased with mine. Yes, there are others way, way better than this Lightning, but you also pay more. This Lightning to me, is the perfect residential type compressor with a lot of bells and whistles that even higher costing compressors do not have.

Curious, Fred, what type of oil did you put in yours? I’ve posted responses to almost all hatsan Lightning new owners with things to be aware of that I’ve come across in set up and using of my compressor since taking ownership last July. By chance have you already read those?

I received my Lighting yesterday. (I listened to the Bigragu). I ordered mine from field supply and they drop shipped it from the hatsan location. Two days is all it took. Side note went to 2 different auto parts stores and three hardware stores for compressor oil. That fits the requirements. One guy even pulled a bottle of 10w30 synthetic motor oil off the shelf and told me that would work. I laughed and said I'll keep shopping.

Blizzard conditions tomorrow. I'll hopefully get it set up minus oil.

My only question is what should I look for on the hatsan upgrade? I'll try and post a photo of mine tomorrow to see if matches the upgrade.

Wish I knew of Field supply when I bought mine, cause that’s a sweet price you paid for it! I got mine in mid July, straight from Indiana Airguns. I don’t know how they pulled it off, but that compressor was not even released on Hatsan’s website yet, and no one else had it. They took care of me, for sure, by going thru it before shipping it off to me. Great guys over there. My next air rifle purchase will be from them, again.



It’s a fitting off of the coolant lines heading to the compressor. If I remember right, the closest cooling line coming from the cooling fan to the first connection at the compressor head, if yours is a 90 degree fitting, let hatsan know yours hasn’t been upgraded. I’m pretty sure yours already is, as that recall was out around October of last year. But, if unsure, just email Hatsan thru a service form on their website. That’s the best way to get a response back. They may ask you to send them a pic of the area they ask for. With that part, they send you a $50 gift coupon for your troubles. I waited for a sale that hatsan had and scored big on pellets with that $50, lol.



If you’re patient, order Amsoil ISO 30/40 synthetic compressor oil from Amsoil website. It costs $14/quart, I ordered two, and that’s good for almost five oil changes. 

I know I’ve posted this before, but if you wanna keep that thing dust free, there’s a compressor cover I found on Amazon that fits it perfect, and at the same time I bought a vibration hour meter, to make tracking the hours use for maintenance a breeze. If you missed that tread where I posted it, let me know and I’ll be more than happy to re post.

Hey, that thing is an investment. Why not take the best care for it, I always say. I don’t know if wifey will ever let me spend that much money again on a toy, so I’m doing whatever it takes to make it last, lol.

I am using Air Venturi synthetic compressor oil, in the 16 oz squeeze bottle, which is convenient. I think the cover idea is a good one. I would appreciate that link, I also like the idea of the hour meter. Right now I have a little log book to keep track of the time. Until I get a cover I am going to store it in its original box to keep it dust free.

I also received mine from field supply. The compressor was dropped shipped from Hatsan. The packaging was very well done, not only was it in its cushioned container, but also had a very stout wood framework to protect it. I have saved this just in case.

For my cover I'm using my GMG cover. Got a package deal on my grill and it came with a cover and a bag, but since I have an outdoor kitchen (covered deck) I don't need the grill cover. It looks cool and it's heavy duty.

Vibration meter amazon check. Received say day as compressor. Wires are bundled and away from heat sources. I've got some good anti-freeze but will upgrade though. I've got 3 quarts of Amsoil coming. (the wait is killing me). Like I said I searched all local sources. I'd hate to drive an hour and not be able to find any at the local major city.

Here's a photo of my piston heads. Does this look like the upgraded model.

I can not believe the support I've received from this forum. The folks I've dealt with here so far have always been honest and to the point. I realize sometimes I've got reread some post to see if someone is venting or stating some bs but overall all everyone I've dealt with is A+ super cool.

I have been researching compressors for a month. Thank you for the heads up on the clearance sale at Field Supply. I almost paid way more off of ebay. Just ordered the Hatsan Lightening. I will order the syn oil and follow other suggestions I read on this board. I will be using this on my evanix giant x2, dual tanks and huben k1.

I live in humid southern FL. I read the dessicant chamber is very small on the Lightening. Has anyone replaced that chamber with a larder dessicant chamber?

The answer is to leave out the desiccant from the tiny chamber and to purchase an after market filter to attach to your output hose. At a minimum get the $28 black filter or the best value option is to buy the Tuxing gold filter from Aliexpress for $76 that has a repackable desiccant chamber inside. It ships from the U.S. It makes no sense to spend $400 for a desiccant filter for a $1,000 compressor. The Tuxing is just as effective for $325 savings and it's repackable. Here's a link:

SigP, if you haven’t got your coolant yet, get Zerex GS100, lol. Made for high heat diesel trucks. It meets the Hatsan compressor requirements, and distilled water cause it’s not premixed. Go for a 60/40 water to coolant mix. 70/30 would be okay, too. My temps during summer have yet to go past 180 degrees, and this time of year, 140 degrees.

Ha! I haven’t gotten around to replacing mine yet, lol. Contact Hatsan, thru a service form that you fill out on their hatsanusa.com website. They will guide you on what’s needed and how it’s suppose to end up.

Having listened to the Bigragu and his infinite wisdom I'll take a poke at the upgrade. Like he says, look at the first line from the coolant pump. Is it at a 90 or inline. The first lightnings had 90 degree fittings the later ones have in line fittings. I believe mine is the upgrade. (looking at your compressor from the fill end for the hydraulic fluid the piston head on the right should have a straight fitting on the back side. In the photo above it's on the opposite side of the 90 fitting on the right.)



I noticed in earlier video's this fitting was a 90.

I might be full of water. Please feel free to let me know.

I've almost checked everything off the list. But hey, I plugged it in for the first time in a quiet shop. Suddenly I'm hearing voices. It tells me it's okay to operate. Is this just me or are other people having the same experience and if so where was the warning?? "Caution can cause extreme hallucinations".
