New guns first hunt!

I picked a gem of a rifle up from the yellow classifieds a week ago, a QB79 pcp in .177. The seller, a fellow Indiana airgunner, had put all the effort into it already. Trigger is clean and light, barrel was recrowned, and he fitted a Boyd's discovery inletted stock to it. I had been eyeballing the QB pcp's lately, I had bought a QB 78 CO2 for our daughter a few years ago, and was really impressed with the quality for the cost. (I shoot it a good bit!) So when I opened the box for this one, I knew it was perfect. Its light, fairly small, and the stock fits great. I slapped a cheap bug buster 3-9 on it, and was even happier. It layed CP lites in tiny little piles at 20 yards, (ALOT of little piles, the 13 cu/in bottle just keeps on going and going!!) and smacked my 1" spinner with adequate authority. I had a feeling this would become one of my favorite squirrel guns!

I decided to shrug off the tired after work this morning, and hit the woods. But first I wanted to fit a TKO brake I had laying around from a crosman project. About 1/2hr in the mill I had it bored out for the 15mm barrel of the QB, and took a few test shots- much quieter!

I hit the woods, and had a great time, weather was cool and calm, and there were plenty of squirrels out. I took 4 shots, and anchored 4 squirrels with clean hits. Almost filled my limit with a fifth, but I passed on the small opportunity he gave me, and he never gave another chance. By then, my stomach growls were drowning out the squirrels cutting, so I decided to call it for the day.

LOVE this rifle, and plan to buy another QB79 in .22 as soon as I can find one in stock. These seem to fit my squirrel hunting style perfectly, and I think my wife would benefit from one over her .22 discovery even. I really like the shorter length, and the solid, heavy barrel. With the disco, I'm always afraid to bump the barrel. I'd buy another QB in .177 if it didn't seem so silly to have identical guns. I think at the "lethargic" 10-11fpe power level, the smaller caliber is probably more user friendly in the woods.
