New FX Slow Twist barrels.

I had heard that FX was going back to the slower twist rate for .30cal. My FX Maverick's 500mm Superior liner has this 37" twist rate, and it's a frigging laser beam with 44gr JSBs in the high 800's & low 900's (I've admittedly not tested it in the mid to upper 900's, but I have the power on tap and may try this soon with my Mav shooting hot with my hammer weight ).

The 26" twist in the TJs have been more ideal for shooting 44gr in the lower 800's. I haven't shot any of the faster twist Superiors in .30cal much, but I know they're not as well suited for the 44's.

Thank you much for that I was thoroughly confused for a bit. Thought processes not doing so well today. Looks like I got what I wanted for slugs but might want the slow one for pellet shooting also as I want to shoot the 44gr JSBs. Guess I will see how well the Superior does first when the gun gets here before I go for the slow twist.

I have two .30 stx slow twists...one is even the LH twist liner :)

Unfortunately due to all the confusion with the superiors in .30 cal, I was supposed to receive a slow twist superior and a heavy superior...both ended up being standard superior. Here's the best thing--the heavy one has the heavy sticker but it's the standard superior twist. So I think I have like 4 standard superior liners in .30 😭

@FX-USA - early on with the 30 cal superior liners--was there an issue with some liners being labeled as heavy but were actually the standard superior? I guess the same question for the slow twist--were these some issues with standard superiors ending up being distributed as the slow twist?

When FX just launched superior liner last year, the .30 standard liner twist rate was 1:37 and the superior heavy slug liner was 1:22. Later last year FX upgraded the .30 standard superior liner to 1:26. The latest .30 standard superior liner is 1:22. Yes, it's exactly the one FX called heavy superior liner last year. Now the heavy one is 1:18.

I saw some old post said superior heavy slug liner shoot NSA 55.4 well. Then someone reported standard liner shoot same slug better than 47/49 NSA. I think they might just used the same liner with different name.

It's no wonder there is a bit of confusion about twist rates on the .30 liners they changed allot over the past couple three years. Trenier has a list of the FX liner twist rates and look at the changes it's just insane. Guess FX is learning things as they go so changing constantly.

My latest Purchased is a Superior Heavy 700mm in.30 and its posed to be 1:18 although it looks more like 1:16 to me. I also have an old STX 1:40 600mm liner as well as a supposedly Slug A liner that looks to be 1:24 or 25. expect I will get a 1:22 on my M3 when it gets here so I will have 4 liners all with different twist rates.

The chambering has been different IME with the pellet/Superior & slug/Heavy liners.

I have also experienced better accuracy in general with the slower twist liners shooting 44gr, but the wind drift is more substantial than with the 26" TJs shooting the same ammo.

I do not like shooting the lighter (sub-60 grain) slugs with the TJs due to wind drift, but I believe that this is perfect for the heavier ammo and 50gr pellets.

Definitely measure the twist rate so you know what you have. Good news is it is a total no-brainer with the external rifling.

In .30 I have the 1:37, 1:22, and 1:18. As was mentioned above, 1:22 is now the current Superior "Standard" but used to be "Heavy". Testing slugs 50gr and under, groups are better for me in the 1:22 standard barrel. The original STX (before superior, and before the slug craze) barrel was 1:40 I believe, and that was known as a great 100yd pellet shooter. Slower twist with pellets is supposed to be a little better in the wind at distance.

Whose on the team doing testing on these liners? For Pete’s sake how many versions of twist rates are there going to be?!

unqualified testers it seems

I think we all pretty much know who the main tester is. He sure gets a lot of praise for it. I tried to give him some info on what has already been learned with lead slugs over the years and why what works, while other tings do not. But it fell on deaf ears. Not so much as the courtesy of a reply.
