new fx air rifle or not

There isn't a brand out there that doesn't have is problems, bad examples, supporters, and detractors. I think part of the reason why there seem to be so many more complaints about FX though is that they sell a LOT more rifles than the other "leading brands" on the forum. I think the take-away from all this isn't to buy or avoid any particular brand, but to purchase from a retailer who has good service and support. Buying from the most reputable brand in the world doesn't mean a thing if it is you who got the lemon and your dealer won't support you or tells you to contact the manufacturer for support.

Full disclosure: I run two FX Crowns and love them both. Would recommend.

Well said ;)

I have had over 40 different airguns from most manufacturers and none have ever been 100% perfection across every unit I have purchased from a particular manufacturer. This also applies to every consumer good, vehicle, house and everything else I have ever purchased. Most of the time you get well made trouble free goods but in any mass produced society things DO slip through. When problems do occur if they are handled as a level headed adult rather than as a spoiled kid they usually turn out resolved to one's satisfaction! ;)

That's spot on T3PRanch

I've had a Continuum for 6 months now. I shoot it a LOT. 22 caliber, tuned to 62fpe currently. My stock did crack. Not sure if it was because of me, one of my dogs, or my wife. I was away for a few days, it got moved, Within a days time of being back, I saw it was broken. FX did take a couple days to get back with me. There was a major shooting event underway. And I think they had just got back from vacation. Either way, they were very kind, and sent me a new stock no questions.

Other than that, the gun has been a dream to shoot. I've put thousands of rounds thru it. Not a hiccup. I've had the thing in pieces, too. I like to modify my guns, and see how they work should I ever need to repair them. I have a few different sized valves and valve seats, and various hammer/spring parts. I havnt tried it in 30 caliber, but I recon I could do 90 FPE pretty easily. 22 will go up close to 75+/-, but there are modifications involved.

My advice. If you get a FX gun, make sure it's a new one. I know there are older FX's stil being sold. Some are, in fact, quite old.

BUT some of their old ones are some of the best guns you can get as well.... Just do your homework :)

I did have problems, but I caused them. Yes, I was stupid.

One thing about FX I love is the IMPACT Master Series of videos on YouTube. No other vendor puts that kind of information in the average person's hands. With that info, I was able to completely rebuild the gun on my own. Shoots as well as ever now. \

My next gun will probably be another Impact.

I have a FX Royale 500 (.25) and it has been my go-to hunting rifle for the past 3 years. Excellent right out of the box - very pleased with the accuracy, power and shot-count. Getting on to 5,000 pellets with just routine cleaning and maintenance - no issues at all.

Have a .22/700mm Impact on order as a slug gun for light pesting (starlings, grackles, pigeons, rats and that sized stuff) and long range target shooting/plinking.

I feel that FX sells a vast amount of air guns. They are all expensive. A gun has a problem and the owner paid between $1000 and about $2650. The owner is upset, understandably so. He goes to the forum and looks for help and maybe vents his frustration. Yet all the owners of trouble free guns seldom let the rest of us know of their good experience. I have not shared my good experience with 2 FX rifles which I've have for several years. Next is FX's percentage of troubled guns. I have no figures, only that the number of problems I read about in the forum are not over whelming and FX does answer the phone and email and fixes the problem. Yes at times some poor shooter gets hit with murphy's law and the fix takes longer then we would expect. But FX went to the trouble to enlist more dealers, install a warehouse/ warrantee/ repair shop/ building., and hire a man I consider to be one of the best at tuning, trouble shooting, and researching ways to improve the product ( the Impact for instance; it's new air plenum, regulator, etc). And they have more then one smith to do the work. Now Mr. Axelson Is continually coming up with new ideas like the Impact MII Compact. 25" long, 500mm barrel, new 300cc carbon fiber bottle. And the factory can't keep up with the demand for all the new rifles that have been designed, engineered and put into production. I keep expecting a valveless semi auto pcp since they stopped production of the previous ones. The man started FX out of his own pocket cause his employer didn't want to introduce improvements to the air rifles. And Axelson has not stopped Improving. I think his goal is to provide us with the most diverse, reliable guns we crave. the FX guns are popular, demand is out stripping production, Axelson ideas are out stripping production, yet they still answer the phone, email, solve problems, supply parts, and if there were some many problem air rifles out there the unwanted used ones wouldn't still command high prices and sell quickly. If you want your early model Impact up graded it can be done. All I ever learned is buy the best you can afford. The best is the one that is hard to get cause so many people want one. No manufacturer is perfect, as long as previous buyers are satisfied you won't find a glut of them on the market. People snap them up quickly, stand in line waiting for their order to be filled. If anyone has read all of this: you are a better man then I am Gugadin( character in an old movie hopefully I spelled it right)
