When did you get it? Also, did you reach out to them for a fix and how did it go?

I bought it new from AGD a couple of weeks ago. Being wise enough to not jeopardize my warranty - I asked AGD support for authorization to verify the torque specification on the socket cap screws atop the heat sink, and was told that I would be forwarded to vendor support in a couple of days. The next day I received an email from AGD stating:



Hello, I am sorry but this is not the tech center that deals with Daystate compressors. 
You are best off contacting the warranty center for that product.

and then a second email from the original AGD with an apology for not being able to do more and informing me of my options for an exchange or refund. 

Beyond this leak, there are cosmetic issues that make the product appear "rushed" through a production line. With the numerous videos and marketing efforts, I'm sure they're being produced quickly to meet demand.

I don't know what I want to do for a compressor now. The situation stinks for me.
 
I have been hand pumping for a couple months due to a failure of my Omega. I just recently placed the order for the Daystate compressor. I’ll be selling the Omega. Sure hope I have a better experience than you have had.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that mtnGhost... As much as a pain in the ass and frustrating as can be, I'd return it and get another. Mine been in operation for a little over a year and runs like a champ. I really believe your's is that .005% fluke. 

I bought mine from AoA and they fully tested before shipping it out. That was their recommendation... I had the option to have it shipped the next business day without being tested. Sounds like Rick is doing the same with the units that he's selling. I'd request that AGD do the same on the replacement. 

Good luck with this, sounds like they'll make it right.

Concur, sounds like you got a lemon. AOA did the same testing prior to shipping mine. I've been very happy with it and I think the cosmetic issues are a good indicator -- I noticed a lack of powder coating on the pictures you shared.

Return it to AGD and re-order a tested unit from AOA? I recall AOA being a service center for them as well which means they're well qualified to identify any potential issues prior to shipping.

I've had a few negative experiences with AGD -- from the initial order of the EPump to a pending refund authorized by AirForce themselves who indicates they have credited the reseller/distributor. I think the issues you have could be attributed to lack of inspection and verification prior to shipping.

Because of my experiences with AGD (and PA, who uses the same order fullfillment center) the only thing I order from them is pellets.
 
Hello all. I personally visited the fulfillment center before I opted to bring on the Daystate and also the Omega compressors. I can't speak to what AGD does, but I can tell you specifically what is done for our customers before we drop ship the Daystate compressors. Each compressor is run tested with clean oil. Then the oil is changed and tested again. Then it's drained and prepared for shipping. Each compressor is packed in a custom box with multiple layers of foam on all 6 sides and shipped insured to our customers. So we know before shipping that each compressor is tested and known working order.

Make use of the AGD return and request that they test any unit that they send out as a replacement.

First, thanks to everyone here that has sympathized - it's been as frustrating as you can imagine. I've noodled what to do in the back of my mind over the weekend. One thing is certain, it's getting returned to AGD.

To @LMNOP's point - spot on with the assessment of the paint! Parts of the second stage do not look powder coated - rather painted sloppily with thick gloss. There are several areas with little and no paint on them whatsoever. When I look up close and down low, there is frigging RUST popping up everywhere on the second stage too! I first noticed this after I published the video of the leak, some spots where the oil dropped down to ate away at the paint and uncovered surface rust. I also noticed that there is a metallic gasket in between the heat dissipaters, which is kinked on one side a little. This could possibly be the cause for the leak in the first place (hard to see in these, but I'll take another photo in the daytime before I send it back)..

Here is what REALLY pisses me off more than anything - the last time that I ran the compressor, I started seeing RUST coloration coming out of the moisture drain valve! I just was starting to get acclimated to seeing the greenish-yellow tinge of oil when I'd bleed moisture off, but then it started coming out looking more akin to blood..

I had purchased a Coltri water separator and spare filters / inserts and added them as part of the "last mile" of the compressed air output. The filter has around 2.75hrs on it now, luckily - I didn't see any signs of this discoloration before adding this to the output so I believe that my guns and two tanks are safe.

Now that I've concluded that this compressor has to go back, I'm left asking myself what I'm going to do. I spent a fair bit of time looking at options, chatted with several people who's opinions I regard highly, and decided that I would generate a list of requirements for my needs. For the size, supposed quality, weight, and features, this compressor was what I landed on. AGD has them in stock, offered overnight shipping, and I pulled the trigger thinking the problem was solved. Having to come full circle and back to square one again sucks

With that said, I'm tremendously disappointed with the overall experience with AGD - there were some hiccups with the order processing, their email listed in the receipt was non-working, and something wasn't right with my order status up until FedEx arrived at my door for me to sign for it (I was luckily planning to work from home that day, FedEx delivery Manager notified me a couple of hours beforehand). The first tier rep that I corresponded with seemed great ("Craig"), but this other rep quickly shut the door in my face for any possible support, and that was that.

For these reasons, and to @Oregun's idea, I'm likely going to roll the dice with AoA for another Daystate compressor if they have one in stock. I'm frankly not real keen on their extended lead times that they say are for "testing" the merchandise, but I would be open to having them spend a day or so to ensure that what I'm buying isn't a leaky refurb or whatever.

This is subjective, so please do not judge me on this, but looking at this second stage component I cannot help but think that it was taken off of a returned model and spray painted to blend as if it were new. Being a Jeep owner and having had numerous custom lifted vehicles, I have seen enough rust buckets hiding under fresh paint to know when something isn't right, whatever the case may be I'm going to gamble one this being a fluke and go with a vendor that seems to have more in house expertise with this model. Hopefully, I won't have to come full circle again!

I think it is a safe bet with respect to rolling the dice. I know the testing delay sucks but it also ensures you get a functioning unit. What I got from AOA I assumed is what you were getting from AGD. I've seen none of these issues and what I got from AOA appears and functions as a top notch well built well QC'd machine. The exterior rusting you're seeing is enough for me to go "WTF is going on here?". Couple that with the rust colored discharge and I'm wondering if you got a knock off unit, something that sat in the bottom of the ocean for a few days, or just a lemon.

I've got a little over 1.3 hrs on mine and everything is still as pristine as the day I ordered it.

With regard to being a Jeep owner -- I knew there was a reason I liked you; 2012 JKU manual here. Prior was a 2003 TJ with the inline six, manual of course :)
 
Cool, so AoA had them in stock, placed an order while I was on the phone. They're going to prep it and expedite shipping, so I'll have it later in the week. Fingers crossed that I get a "good" one! 

@lmnop - right on!!! For Jeeps I've started with a YJ years ago, then a 2012 JKUR, and now an '05 TJR - this little beast just handles some of the super narrow mountain trails that I wheel on like none other! 35's on a 6.25" Long arm, 5.13, 6spd manual 🤘

For high-dollar compressors of this kind, I would expect the parts that will come into contact with water / moisture to be made of non-rusting materials such as aluminium or stainless steel. Is that not the case ?

I got bored, anything in 'blue' is ferrous metal that is attracted to a neodymium magnet. Anything not indicated as blue in the foreground did not test as being ferrous. I used mtnGhost's image as a reference, adjusted his image to show the ferrous metal in blue, and tested all points pictured on my LC-110. Guess this explains the localized rust. Perhaps flooded shipping container and/or warehouse storage issue? Who knows... just figured I'd chime in with what I observed.

Based on my ultra-scientific test of rubbing magnets over stuff (lol) I would postulate that these things need a moisture free environment from shipping to use :( Hope this helps.
