New Crown 22 ready for accuracy testing!

Just finished setting up the new Crown. Cleaned the barrel first like I always do and took all but a smidge of slack out of the hammer spring (power wheel) adjuster.

The regulator gauge was reading 130bar out of the box. I ran several 5-shot strings at different power levels at 130bar but didn't get the performance I wanted.

I increased reg pressure to 135bar and ran some more 5-shot strings. All with the JSB 18.13gr pellets. I ended up with what you see in this chart.....Transfer port set on 177/22 and power wheel on 5.

Interesting enough I tried a few 5-shot strings on the 25/30 setting, and on power wheel 4 I got Avg of 918fps, ES of 5, SD of 2. This gun will have plenty of power to work with when my Slug liner comes in.

:)

Dang you got right after it.

I haven't messed with my settings yet. Regulator was set at 138 bar from UA and PW at max. I'm very happy with it's accuracy for now. I'm sure it will get better if I tune it. But just to happy to mess with it now. I just ordered a chrony yesterday so I may mess with it later when it warms up.

How much slop did you remove from PW adjuster? Did you get any data before you made adjustment?

Can't wait to see the first video of you and the Crown in action.

Wow Bob that is some very impressive tuning there...I think I would leave it on the 25/30 #4 setting and shoot the heaviest projectiles that are accurate so as to carry the most energy down range. I think Dubber has been using some Nielsen slugs with good results according to his last video killing pigeons on a cattle farm with his Impact. Seems to me like that Crown must have a very good regulator in it as opposed to some other guns. Here's hoping you have a ton of fun with it!

Best regards, Chuck

Thank you CHUCK....compliments on tuning mean a lot especially coming from you.

Good and bad news for today. I'll start and end with the good. :)

GOOD

I got out to the range despite the weather, 39*F and light rain.

Gun grouped tightly at 50 yds....1/2" and under.

BAD

The gun would not group well at 100....my guess is the 18gr pellets were destabilizing at 880fps.

The gun/shots did not sound efficient at all.

GOOD

I did another round of Chrono work and found two new settings that gave good results and the gun sounds 5 times better!

Reg pressure reduced to 125bar. Transfer port on 177/22, Power wheel/HS on 1 for the 18.13gr pellets.

For the 15.89gr pellets, Transfer port on 25/30 and Power wheel/HS on 3.

There were a few combinations of pressure, port and power wheel that gave me the velocity I wanted, but these two sounded the best/ quietest.

Check out the muzzle end of the shroud...thin layer of frost on it!

Well I know you are going to get this Crown shooting perfect because like me you are just by God determined to figure it out...you are not going to let it go until you do. There are no books on this stuff so we just have to use trial and error and our common sense to figure it out. One thing to bear in mind is that your going to have to put one or two cans of pellets through her for your reg washers to settle in together completely, but so far it is looking very promising. I am sure there are a lot of guys with Crowns watching your progress intently.

HD,

You're going to like the Chrono....it will tell you how your rifle is performing. :)

My shroud adapter will be here Monday. This gun needs a suppressor in the farms I shoot at. Tomorrow I will be using the Sumo on the barrel without the shroud.

Yep, can't wait.

I have ordered the adapter and Sumo also. I hope I got the right one. I got the the adapter and 1/2" UNF Sumo. Is this correct? I think noise reduction will help where I shoot also. If not they still look cool.

If I have any questions when I start tuning mine can I PM you?
