New Beeman P1

I recently bought a "Beeman P1" (Weihrauch 45).

Overall nice gun. Not a big a deal as many seem to think about getting used to a "spring" gun. Don't think about its shortcomings, just do it..! I have powder fire guns, PCP and "single pump" guns. You just get used to having different guns to shoot.

Anyway, the point to this post - I checked a few things after getting the gun here. Two things in question. 1. The lead-in to the barrel was a bit rough. Not a clean chamfer. 2. The breach o-ring sticks out a little at the bottom of the ring groove. Seems to seal fine...at this point anyway.

I removed the barrel and polished the chamfer and made an actual smooth, clean chamfer in the barrel.

Now for the real part of the story... As I was cleaning the inside of the barrel, I noticed a witness mark, or"dent" in the barrel where the machined cut is that holds the barrel to the upper of the gun. The witness mark..."appears" to be pushing out of the inner surface. Not in...like you'd think from the machining operation. In any case, it is a visible mark. Seems that more care would be given to this cut with the cost of the gun. A $50 or $100 gun, I understand rough machining practices. But a $400+ gun..??

Does it affect accuracy...don't know, seems to be pretty accurate. Still getting used to the SeeAll sight along with the gun itself, so it's a learning curve.

I bought a 22 caliber P11 a while back , Had to send it back to PA due to pellets hitting 10 yard target sideways The pellet would be stuck on its side on the target,

They tuned the gun and sent it back to me , I have not shot the gun but maybe two times in a year,

I just always grab and pick up my Beeman P 17 in 177 caliber, One of my P17s I bet I have killed over 100 rattle snakes with it,

it shouldn't effect accuracy and the See All sights

I bought one of the small one's in delta and screw with it for awhile, trying get it mounted on a Cometa Indian and I didn't like the sight picture at all

if the sights on the Indian were half way decent I would have bought it but it was the only thing that the cocking lever would clear

I think if we looked at all barrels we would find all sort of odd looking things

I read your note, then looked at my target. It is only general everyday paper and is known to tear oddly, and it does, big rips. While the hole is a big long tear in the paper, looking like the pellet surly went thru sideways, looking closely at the paper, you can see where the pellet did hit the paper squarely with a nice round mark on the paper surface, at the top of the tear, before ripping the paper. But thanks for the heads up. Glad I looked.

I'm not worried about the SeeAll sight. I just remarked on it, because of recently installing it and hadn't had time to get used to it yet. With a few more shots last night and trying different things, I'm getting the hang of it. Yea, mine is also the "delta" (triangle) center point.

As far as "odd" looking things in the barrel's, I'd surely hope not..! The barrel is the main thing that controls the accuracy, right..!? Like I said, maybe in a cheap gun, sure, plenty possible. NOT in a $400+ gun. I've looked down plenty of barrels while cleaning over many years, never have I seen this type of mark. Granted, I'm new to air guns...still not expecting strangely shaped rifling.

P.s. - It seems that the slower moving pellets tear big holes, the faster the pellet is moving, it seems to to make a smaller and smaller hole. My PCP rifles produce nice clean, round holes.

I am using wadcutters (flat head) with the .177 guns.. But still no sharp holes like with the faster PCP round dome style pellets. I'll give cereal box card/paper a try. The paper target that I have setup is "basically" free floating. Hanging by a wire into a foam backstop. The paper moves around on the wire, but is about 1/2" away from the backstop.

I used 2x4 wood when I noticed my pellets sitting in the wood side ways, Never seen that in any of my air guns , Not even the crossman 760 , I really need to check it again,

But really the gun was bought to shoot at one to two feet and a rattle snake head, But its hard to take the place of the P 17 with its tight fitting holster and all..

Hope to do a little more rattle snake hunting this spring and summer, Head shots only hate to ruin the skin...

Breach o-ring -

The o-ring finally split in my P1. Pulled it out to do some shooting today and found a split open o-ring.

I measured the groove, went to McMaster Carr, checked their list of sealing rings.

Seems that a -009 should be about a perfect fit. Has anyone given the "X" or the Double "X" rings a try ? They have the same cross sections as a standard o-ring, but have twice the sealing per "side" as an o-ring. I bought both the "X" and the double "X to see how well they fit and seal.

The "X" ring fit just about perfect (NOTHING is perfect !) in the breach block. Because it's sort of square in shape, it's almost locked in place also. No way to fall out. I shot 10 or 12 pellets thru it. I really couldn't tell if the breach was leaking or not. So I cleaned the end of the barrel well (all the way around), the breach block really well. I put a thin piece of aluminum tape around the top of the barrel that hung over onto the breach block and pulled it tight as I locked "slide". Fired the round, opened it and looked for any signs of air leakage. NONE. No split in the tape from high speed air escaping, no dent in the aluminum from a little bit of air escaping...

Just a hint, if you are looking for a good seal, the "X" or double "X" ring might be a better way to go over an o-ring.

Got a Santa Rosa silver.177 in Santa Rosa,never had a problem,I did reseal it,I was wondering ,mine has 2 power levels,do the new ones have that feature?BTW you just do not cock it all the way for the lower power option.Also .45 grips fit it..it is accurate I also "think"you can just put in a different barrel for different cal.

All in all a good pistol ....they sure have went up in price though.
