New Athlon Midas TAC FFP review

No Joe it's not beyond my finances but I hate to pay $699 for something I can buy for 450 I've got a couple Athlon Argos 6x24. I'm completely satisfied with them so I don't really want to spend more money on something like that. I'll look them over when I see them at a show.

sorry Jo e. I butted into your conversation w/ another

Hi @Boog, @JoeWayneRhea probably forgot more about scopes than I will ever know, but for pesting, I suggest you look for a ffp zoom in the 4-16x range, maybe slightly higher magnification depending on the distances you plan on shooting at. When scanning especially a low light, lower magnification helps as it gives you a larger field of view. When you found a target I am often in the 12-16x range when making the shot but very seldom more. Lots of pest also like dawn and dusk, and for that I find an illuminated reticle helpful to see the sub-tensions for hold-over and under.

I have only owned two scopes, @Boog, so others may be a lot more helpful to you. My first scope was a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 AO and from it I learned I greatly prefer MIL over MOA, FFP over SFP as I always holdover, prefer more than 12x magnification, and that an illuminated reticle is important for pesting. Side focus vs rear focus is not that big of a deal to me. The second scope I bought was a Athlon Helos BTR 6-24x50 MIL, and from it I learned that I rarely use more than about 16x, and also that a small eye box at high magnification is annoying (that might just be physics, btw). Also learned that you can't use a sunshade with a break-barrel springer with medium rings :). 10 yards or less is parallax adjustment is a requirement for me. If I were to do it again, I would look closely at the Ares BTR 2.5-15x50 APLR3 FFP IR MIL but it's an expensive scope and at this price range you start getting a lot of options. The Athlon Talos BTR 4-14x44 APLR2 FFP IR MIL seem to check all the boxes too. I also looked at Vector but the guys selling on Amazon was playing games, and the way the reticle is illuminated was a deal-breaker.

Boog seriously I could review a new scope once a week and NEVER run out of scopes to review !!!
There are new scope companies popping up like every 3 months .
It is insane the number of choices out there .
My advice ( and mines no better than anyone elses ) Buy from a trusted company with a proven track record .
Athlon Bushnell Clearidge SWFA Weaver Leupold Burris ...And from vendors with good reputation.
I'm making a video next week aboit the vendors and companies that have proven themselves to be worth the money ...Gonna ruffle some feathers I'm sure ....But the truth is a Bitch :)
