I actually know folk that breed and release Quail on their land to get a population going on purpose so they can hunt them later on.

That’s a great idea. We are starting to get them in more places here in Montana too. They have really cool little calls and look neat with the little feather on top of the head. It would be nice to be able to get dinner with a afternoon hunt.

I remember when I was little we lived in Avon township and a covey of quail walked right up to our sliding glass door. I think were native to Southern Michigan back in the day. As for the one you saw a lot of people also purchase and raise them for pointing bird dog training. But it may very well have been a totally wild bird I saw a quail in Ortonville about 2 years ago

It very well could have been someone raising and releasing them to train dogs. I don't know all the neighbors around to know for sure but I hope they keep it up. hunting some quail would be nice close to home instead of driving hours north to do so.

Turkeys were introduced into northern California back in the 70's and they are more plentiful than Valley quail ever were.
