New 28 Grain Slugs from Pro hunter UK

Hi all

This weekend I am going to try these new 28 grain slugs from Pro Hunter UK , I tried the 24's and for some reason they did not work that well , shame that really . So tomorrow its the 28's that are getting a good go . I will try dry and then some lubed, I figure that with a tiny bit of lube makes a whole bunch of difference. I really hope they work in my Red Wolf , Graham , the guy that owns the company has a BSA Super Ten running 38 ft/lb and they work in that well ... I say that , the 50 yard groups are great and sadly hew has not had a chance to shoot 100 yards as yet . Tomorrow I will take them out to 200 if they work . The 22.8's are running amazing well at 940 fps so I wonder what kind of velocity I will get with the 28's ? Will be an interesting experiment anyway . Wish me luck . My Red Wolf is getting an upgrade so the power will be much high later on ... all being well ! That might make a difference , I might actually have to go for a heavier slug perhaps ? We shall see .

Stay tuned

44.7ft/lb you will get 848fps.

My Redwolf is shooting the 26g nsa slugs very well. It the most accurate and consistent thing I’ve ever shot at 100m. I’m shooting them at 903fps. It’s odd because most people are getting good accuracy as you are at 940fps. I loose accuracy at that speed.

Slugs are fussy! Is your power upgrade coming from a Heliboard? I can get 940fps with a 30g slug on power 12 with the Heliboard. It’s a good thing👍Did you get your 700mm barrel sorted? Can’t wait to here how that goes. I’m still waiting for a 700mm slug liner. Things move slowly in Oz....

The 700mm barrel is yet to be sorted , We are still working on that at the mo. I am really looking forward to trying it . if it works it will be bang on . As you say , slugs are SO FUSSY !! Does make me laugh when people think they can buy a liner and then it will work right away ... Form what I have seen this does not happen at all . We tried with 600 and 700 liner and took an age to get them to shoot , they did in the end but it was not a 5 min job for sure . The Red Wolf works with some but not all by any means . I think its an addiction now to get it all working well . So the power upgrade on mine is down to Daystate , they are doing something or rather , not really sure ? We shall see . Finger crossed it all works well and shoots the same ... well faster anyway .

Rog been thinking about why your gun is working with the 22.8 g slugs and have an idea on that. 22.8g is a small slug physically a short slug. The position the slug ends up in when loaded is important. You don’t want it to engage the into the rifling to much.

The probe on your RedWolf can seat a Redesigned Monster pellet (past the transfer port) which has a 3mm cavity in the skirt. So when you load a slug with a flat base that an extra 3mm further the probe will push the slug into the beach. Maybe the accuracy of the 22.8 slugs isn’t the weight but it’s position it starts from in the beach

So if we presume that this in why those short slugs are shooting so well what might work is to talk to Daystate about a 2nd probe for slugs (3mm shorter). Instead of just considering the weight of the slug consider the overall length of the slug and where the probe will seat the slug. You could also achieve the same seated position within the breach with a dish base slug. That would give you more weight and the final seated position your after. Personally I would stick to the shorter idea as I’ve found the flat bases to work better but others have had success with a dish base.

Do some measurements for yourself. Don’t just cut 3mm of the probe. Also don’t forget if you do shorten a probe for shooting slugs it may not be long enough to get the redesigned monsters past the transfer port.... It would be a slug only probe.

Good luck on your slug quest!

Not sure I have seen them say that about FX guns to be honest , Where do they say that ??? , Also what barrel are you using buddy ?? Anyway , tried the 28's today in my Red Wolf ,22 and they were off the charts good ., Had to use the tiniest bit of liube and that made all the difference ... They were bang on . Sadly they were running slower at 897 FPS , that will be sorted later next week but so far so good . Happy as you like . The 22.8 and the 28's are fantastic !! I wonder what they will be like at higher power ?? We shall see I guess .. CANT WAIT !!

On the website under video on the menu but come on 30 p per shot is taking the p***

Air supply explained seating depth/probe length very well.

I believe it’s one reason I see such good results with guns like Condor or FX Elite flow through probe.

I’ve seen some crazy stuff with slugs. An EDgun that shot anything well from 750-940. A Marauder that won’t work with slugs maxed out but slow them down (already slow from Marauder) more & 28.5 RBT’s are flying lasers at 50 yards.

If airguns had specs like powder burners we’d be further along. We’re kind of slow poke Wild Cats, lol.

What barrel did you use them in ?? What power were you running at ? What range did you try ?? Did you lube the slugs buddy ??

Rog

I know they are expensive , They are alll hand swaged which takes an age and I think they are done twice . I know he is making some cheaper ones as we speak , They should be out very soon . Glad you had better results , did you try a bit of lube on them by any chance ??

Rog

No haven’t tried lube

Are you involved with pro hunter

No , I am testing for them , I write for a magazine and wanted to do some testing on Slugs as nobody seems to do anything in the UK . Its coming out in Airgun shooter soon . I also wanted to find a slug that worked with my Red Wolf HP . I test for Daystate also and they wanted to find something that worked for them too . I use a tiny bit of lube and that certainly makes the difference , The groups got smaller right away . The only problem is the pellets dont work that well with lube in the barrel . Not to worry , I am using slugs and loving them at the moment . they work so so well . The new 28's are amazing .
