NEW .22cal 34gr. JSB Jumbo BEASTS just came in! Initial review...

WOW!
These things are LONG! Are they even going to fit into a magazine?
Since I had my pellet sorting stuff out anyway, I decided to put them through some measuring. I grabbed 7 off the top and kept the same 7 through all these tests.
These are the smaller 150pc tins.

FX .22 magazine. Uh... NO! They're too tall to allow the magazine to cycle.

Visual skirt inspection. They look a little beat up.

I would have used my Speedy Pellet Inspector but....

What the heck head size are these??
Let's find out...

WOW! I'm beginning to worry about my breech O-ring.

Weight testing results...
1 each at...
33.40
33.52
33.70
33.96 - Correct weight, per the front of the tin.
34.32
34.36
34.42
I expect some variation in weight but, it's usually in the hundredths of a grain, not in the tenths. Not to mention being .5 +/- off in either direction. That's a full grain difference from lightest to heaviest.

I dropped one off the coffee table by mistake. It fell about 2'. These are made from some very soft lead! Head damage, as expected. Skirt damage goes about 1/3 of the way up the skirt.

It's hard to show the heads in a picture due to their shape. But, I see more flats, nicks, and smileys than I expected.
(Lost in photobucket)

It's Summer Solstice so, there's daylight out still! Hooray!
I'm not expecting great results at long ranges. But, I hope to be proven wrong. I'll try to post up some pics later on tonight or maybe tomorrow.

Initial thoughts....
Jeez JSB, what happened to quality control? These are all over the place.
Happy Shooting!
Tom

Wind = calm.
50 yards
(Lost in photobucket) 1-1/4" group

Wind = calm. If it did blow it was 1-4mph right to left (Yes... Right to left!)
100 yards
(Lost in photobucket) 5-3/8" group

50 yards (During Chrony testing) Wind = Didn't pay attention. Nothing notable, guessing 1-4mph.
(Lost in Photobucket) 1-1/2" group

Chrony numbers...
609
608
604
621
614
599
617
611
627
623
For comparison purposes...
The same gun on the same setting shoots the 18's at 890av.
All things the same this rifle shoots the 18's in 1/2" groups at 50 in it's sleep. I'd guess... 1" to 1-1/2" at 100 yards.

I had high hopes for these. I thought they might bridge the gap between the wind bucking weight of the .25 heavies and the accuracy of the 18gr. .22's. I'm not sold on them. Tomorrow I'll try running them through my AA S-510. Maybe traditional rifling will like them better?

@Dirte - The pics of the Crown show it with Impact magazines, which (IIRC) are the same thickness as the Royale's. Unless they have an indent on the inside to let the head clear, I don't think it's going to work. But, I shot these through my Royale using a single shot loader. So, they can be loaded into a Royale size mag opening. Want a tin of these? PM me your addy.

Would the 25.39g .25's give you the wind bucking accuracy?

Hey...... I appreciate the offer but it looks like they a bit of a struggle to group. The good thing is your doing the leg work on a lot of testing and gunsmith type projects for me. I've got some good ideas from you. You need more youtube stuff. I like the tech stuff better than the hunting videos. That is unless your shooting those poor peeps.

Great work tominco!!!
The next question is what gun can push these pellets at 900 fps? These pellets are gonna be the same questions everyone has for the .25 king heavy and for the .30. Find a gun that can push these 900 and be as accurate. We will all be getting another gun at that point. Damn lead heads!!! Lol. It's a fun time to be an airgunner.

I shoot only .25 cal FX guns presently, so our testing will be the CZ barrel. It should not be to long before we report numbers if you want them. PM me to jog my memory if I don't get it posted. Lot of nitesite work here with coons and rats. Testing and setting up puerto Rico's new.25 wildcat for 9 days hunting out my way. He Flys up soon and I'm trying to get the new rig perfect. Don't forget the new .22 cal monster 25 gr pellet has redesigned stamped on lid.
