Need some help on my Royale 400

Folks, I'm in the midst of playing with a couple of regulators in my FX Royale 400, a Huma, and a new FX reg just received in replacement under warranty. One thing I failed to do, I did not measure the depth of the HSA nut in its original position. If some of you would measure yours (and tell me if its been moved) I would appreciate it. To be clear about the measurement, from the rear receiver face to the top of the spring adjusting nut. If you have a "jam" nut on top (I added one), obviously that will need to be considered. I realize this is just one of many variables in the rifle's tuning, but springs have a general range of compression in which they are happiest, and I'd like to be in that range somewhere. Thanks a lot.

I never measured myself. I dialed it all the way in counting how many turns it was. When bottomed out I made a mark with a marker @ 12:00. This way I could start where it was and I had a mark to see how far I was turning in either direction when adjusting it. IIRC, I had mine backed out 3-3.5 turns after I had tweaked everything where I wanted it. HTH

Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't know how far from bottom I am. I did the same with a mark on the face of the nut, once I found the general area of final adjusting. But, when I change regs, I might not have the same pressure setting, might not want the same pressure setting, so I'm interesting in knowing where I stand in that adjustment. I'll make a note of your 3/3.5 turns from bottom.

Elh, just picked up a new Royale a couple days ago. Mine is still locked into place at 4.45mm. Shooting jsb 18's at 910 fps.

Quick question if you happen to know....what was the factory reg set at on yours? And what did you decided to run the huma at?

Thanks

Let me see if I understand. Are you saying the adjusting nut on your hammer spring is 4.45mm below the receiver surface? If so, that is0.175". I think mine is in that range, can't measure without removing the locking/jam not I added. I have no idea of the factory reg setting, as I do not have a reg tester. And frankly, I'm not sure the techs at FX know either. I never received a clear answer. What kind of ES are you seeing in your chrono runs? Ultimately, it's a matter of balancing the reg pressure with the hammer spring tension. My velocity is in the 880 range, so, I guess my reg pressure is little less than yours. The Huma pressure is around 140 BAR on the Huma scale, but I'm not at all sure that is accurate, in fact, I'm pretty sure it's not.

Correct. Below the receiver.

The huma i had in my Wildcat was within a couple of bar of the gage i had installed. So at least that particular reg was marked pretty close.

I like to find out max velocity for a particular reg setting. Then back the velocity down by 3 to 5% for best efficiency.

So far on a few 10 shot strings with only about 50 or so through the gun, im only seeing an 8 fps extreme spread. So far so good.

Im liking this rifle way more than my Wildcat. And may have bumped my daystate regal down a notch as far as an easy to shoot well rifle goes. And i didn't think that was possible.

I agree, the Royale 400, IMO, may be the best value in a PCP out there. I had a Crown, a great rifle, but (again, only my opinion), it suffers from its own success, too much emphasis on bells and whistles, at the cost of absolute reliability. I hate to say it, but the Royale may be the only air rifle I need! Currently, I have a RAW and a Red Wolf, and dearly love both. If I had to take only one rifle for a week of hunting and shooting, with no tools or cleaning equipment, it would be the Royale. As you, I also had a Regal, and it's a great rifle. But, the Royale seems to be it's equal in every category, with the addition of a much greater shot count, and my preference of a side-lever action. I guess the barrel will eventually need cleaning, but I'm still waiting for it. With the exception of the factory-supplied regulator, I cannot find a complaint.

Im extremely happy with my purchase! Like you, if i could only have one gun, i believe this would be it. Only thing ive done so far is drill out number 2 on the power wheel. It pushes 15.89 jsb's at 800 and crosmans at 830 fps now. Perfect midrange power now.

I got mine from Jim at Precision airguns, im pretty sure he said he could order a bit longer barrel for the royal. Which should net a bit more fpe and or efficiency. I may call and talk a bit more about it with him and get some details. Also going to try and print up some baffles for the moderator, there's room for a few in there.

Looking forward to spending some time getting familiar with this one!

I've never heard of a longer barrel option, but maybe it can be done on a special order basis. Since mine will be used some in the woods, I don't want it any longer. I'm sure something can be done in the shroud to add sound absorption. Donny makes an adapter, but that makes it too long for my taste. Subjectively, mine seems about as quiet as my Red Wolf with a Donny silencer. I have close neighbors, and shoot mine in the yard with no complaints.
