Need more powerful springer/gas piston

Hello all, new member here.

I have shot bbs/pellets many years. Started with a slingshot, then a Red Ryder ,then some early Crossmans ,and Gamos.

Also RF 22s and high power CF rifles and shotguns.

If I had ever got on Dennis's list I'd have a Quackenbush now, no luck, yet.

I need to get rid of woodchucks too close to use cartridge guns.

I've shot really good shooting springers. I see as the main reason most see them as inaccurate: recoil/no practice/ammo. I can can do <2" at 35 yds with a Gamo 177, off hand.

My CF rifles < a dime at 200 yds on a sand bag (.222 rem, 06, 300 win mag).

Strange springer recoil is not an issue. It took me a while to get used to springers/strange recoil, even after centerfires/shotguns. Practice is your friend

Same as with a 12ga slug or 300 Win Mag just hard kicks. M14/M1A have a strange recoil sort of like a springer. A match M1A will do < MOA but it takes some practice.

I am looking for a 25 cal springer/gas piston, that will do woodchucks to ~30 yds, small stuff to ~50 yds. Limited to $300-400 right now, good opens are O.K., I don't really need a scope but a package is a plus. I can can hit beer cans at 100yds with my Browning 22 LR w/opens.

Thinking Benjamin Trail XP NP. But I have heard them denigrated? Bad gun or bad shooters?

Suggestions?/ All are welcome

One more thing.

I've shot traditional BP ML rifles many years now. REAL BP , no suppository "bullets". The ones that have a "tampax" shell.

A bigger chuck of lead, going a bit slower, is a better hunting round. Than a fast one that don't hit where aimed.

Most important is hitting the vitals, and a clean kill. No game suffering, and no waste of food/meat, or the rest fur/skins.

Nay,I think you need to rethink what you need....think about this... a PCP,.something like a Benjamin Discovery....and get a hand pump,..now .that fits your budget and may be a better option...more power and more range...check it out and see if it "might" be better,if not so be it.

BTW,I have a .22 rim fire that is quiet enough to shoot in my backyard...got a fat,long barrel...a Mauser model 45...I use that when I have to....with .22 subsonic....pop....

id definitely be looking at a pcp.

for the price you could get a seneca aspen/nova freedom,

and have more power, better accuracy than a springer.

My Moms place in mASSachusetts. Shoot a cartridge and go to jail..... Too close to other houses. No crowbar hotel for me.

My little Belgian Browning take down used to be the go to rifle there.

I'm open to pcp options. I don't like the idea of needing a pump. Or having to pump it up on short notice. I've taken chucks with my Gamos but short bow ranges, but they didn't just drop.

If I got back into practice I'd just use my bow. I don't have the time, used to shoot 100 arrows every day. Maybe I should.

At my Moms in mASS, you can't even have a cartridge gun handy if needed. Has to be locked up .......or you get locked up

I have a TC Renegade ML/BP I leave there, in 50 cal w/375gr hornday/80gr FFg, ready to go, just needs a cap. Have had bear problems.

I got a nice 22 cal marauder combo deal for sale if interested, would also consider throwing in my nice fx hand pump as well for a little more. Gets a good 40 shots on a 3000 psi fill, easy to fill up. Slings 18.13gr at 750 and 15.89’s at 820 fps

As you can see its quite accurate with jsb 22 cal pellets (30 yards) I have taken so many groundhogs with this thing I lost count :)

Thats not a problem. If you just mainly hunt with it you will get over 20 shots on a single fill so just keep it topped off or close to it and you will never miss a shot due to low air. A smaller cylinder pcp that runs on lower air pressure like the discovery would be a huge leap forward for you over springers and be cheaper than a quality springer to boot. I think that would be a good choice for what youre needing.

I bought 2 Benjamin .25 NP gun a while back. One for my brother and one for me. I was we first dissapointed in the accuracy dept but we were persistent and finally figured out how to shoot it accurate enough for vermin shooting out to about 60 yards

I believe the JSB Heavies were the pellet that finally worked and a lot of pellets through the barrel until it finally settled in.

Once I got into PCP shooting the .25 rarely gets bought out as the PCP is so accurate you go from body shots to head shots on vermin in the yard.
