Need Input For First Nice PCP For Friend

There are 3 I can recommend from experience: FX Royale 400, Daystate Revere, and Weihrauch HW 100. I would recommend the HW 100 model with moderator. Yes, it takes heat to initially remove it, but that's a simple 10 minute, one-time job. The moderator is one of the best, and it's far more effective than the FSB model. Unlike the newer FX rifles, the Royale platform is simple and usually trouble free.

Thanks for the info. I just don't want to send this guy down the road with a used gun for first PCP when he has the money to buy whatever new. I could die of old age finding a minty FX Royale 400 in the right caliber from an extremely reputable source. Then you still have FX overseas repairs, parts etc when necessary. 

I realize the HW100 moderator is better than the FSB shroud. Problem is it adds 6 inches or more to the gun length making the gun ridiculous. So you take the moderator off and have an extremely loud gun. That doesn't solve the problem of still needing a quiet gun as he requires. The only thing you can do to get a decent size quiet HW100 is buy the 12ftlb model special order through someone and convert it to FAC which is a pain. Any way you modify an HW100 also voids the warranty on a new gun. IMO

The HW100 is a good gun but not worth going through all these hassles to modify them just to get a decent size and setup rifle when the guy has up to two grand to buy something else.

In orden not to disappoint him, first look at the use he want's to give to the rifle. To main aspects to take into consideration: power and shot per fill.

That would define adecuate caliber and shots per fill optimum (size of bottle/cilinder).

A Daystate, from Revere to Wolverine would never disappoint anyone. He might not be mentally prepared for acquiring a Uragan (that won't either disappoint anyone).

But maybe the must important satisfaction point to be covered is the one of filling source. He MUST buy an small and functional compressor. And learn how to use it.

The HW100TKFSB with an aluminum cylinder is much lighter than with the standard tube. Comes in close to a pound lighter . The aluminum tubes are available from ratworks on EBay and the rifles from https://www.airgunforum.ca/store/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=joiijpg3grt3p80ellv1sjlva2



keep in mind those are Canadian prices which puts them pretty close to Krale . I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Dan the store owner . Very fast shipping .

True on the aftermarket cylinder but you still have a fishing pole with no shroud and a long moderator. I think the HW100 carbine comes in at 48 inches or something. That is if you can find the carefully hidden specification on "length with moderator" for an FAC version of any HW100. The Rat gauge is a toy and pretty much has to be replaced with the original gauge. To do that you need that rediculous "nobody ever has it" deep 36mm 12 point socket. HW is a great build and I like shrouded version. They just refuse to lighten the gun and develop their own quality aluminum cylinder with gauge and shorten the overall length to be competative.




Actually, this is the shrouded version with a 310mm barrel. As far as exact length goes I’m not 100% but it’s pretty close to 36” . I bought just a spare tube without the gauge and fill ends for cheap from eBay . With a bit of heat both ends came off with no problems using a filter strap. As seen in the pic , the top rifle is actually shorter than the HW30 .

The Royale is still made, but yeah, finding one might be difficult. Pyramyd would probably have to order it, which might be a long delivery period. Service should not be an issue. FX USA in NC could handle anything that comes up, but frankly, the Royale series rarely needs anything other than routine service. 

The HW 100 full length rifle, with silencer, is indeed a long piece of work. Both of mine have been the laminate carbine models. I really like the adjustable stock, and the carbine length,even with silencer, is a perfect balance for me. It's typically German-steel heavy, and it has a great two-stage trigger. In carbine length, my .177 is a 20 fpe rifle, with sufficient power and trajectory to make it an acceptable squirrel gun inside 50 yards. Of course, it's all personal preference.

He will be getting a small compressor like I have to start with. He is familiar with tools on a high level. I listed the power, min shot counts and caliber requirements.

Well this one has a bottle and comes from a good manufacturer. 5.5 lbs for the long, .177 or .22 cz barrel, in stock at AOA or talon tunes, mid range price.

The Royale is still made, but yeah, finding one might be difficult. Pyramyd would probably have to order it, which might be a long delivery period. Service should not be an issue. When I was looking for my first PCP rifle several years ago the HW100 was a serious contender. The deal breaker for me was the weight.
