Need help picking scope with reticle I can see--thick enough

This is going on a Beeman hw97k. I'd like to keep the price about $200. I think I want sfp, but still not sure. Definitely AO, don't care if it's IR or not. Prefer mil dot, but hash marks are ok as long as I can see them. Would prefer 1" since I already have mounts. I had a UTG that came with the gun but didn't care for it.

I just bought and returned a Hawke airmax 3x9x40 AO scope. All was fine with it except that the reticle was so fine (skinny) that unless I was looking at a bright object I couldn't see it, or could barely see it. I don't want to struggle to pick up the reticle. All the listings for scopes show the reticle type, but none mention how thick they are, therefore how well they can be seen against a darker target.

Anyone else have experience with this? What do you use?

Fair number of reticles are published, and may even include line thickness. You are looking for subtension diagrams, such as below for mine. Sometimes these are located in the Support documents for a manufacturer. For a scope that you own, if you know its line thickness, you will have something with which to compare others.

Thanks guys. I've spent the last few hours researching scopes. I reached a point where I just told myself, hell just pick one. I went with an Athlon Talos 3x12x40 BDC 600 IR.

I liked the looks of the reticle and since it had ir I figure I can put it on low if I have any trouble seeing it. Here's a link if you're interested.

Japan Bushnell TAC 5-15x40 AO Mildot you won't find a nicer scope aside from a $699 SWFA SS 3-15x42 in comparable glass.

Buy droop compensating 1 inch rings such as Sun Optics.

DANG hate to recommend such a nonchalant dilly dally slowpoke shipper such as here though but it's the best deal I could find.

Use 5% off code.

I bought my Athlon Talos 4-16x40 for the exact reason of being able to see the reticle, but also because it has mil turrets and a mil reticle. It's on a varmint rifle centerfire though. Not sure I'd put it on a springer honestly and as some know I'm an Athlon fan. It's actually a decent scope which has surprised me since it's so inexpensive.

I had the Talos BTR 4-14x44 on my TX200 and it held up fine. Not the best idea to use this scope on low mag though because it's FFP.

If I wanted to make sure I'd use a brand that makes scopes specifically for springers, or at least have a solid rep for holding up on them, because I wouldn't want to take a chance.

The Bushnell I refer to from Optics Planet has a 10 yard minimum AO focus its the Japan Bushnell TAC 5-15x40 Mildot linked. The Bushnell Forge made in China pictured is not the one I recommend that one has 25 yard minimum focus and has kinda junk glass.

The Japan Bushnell TAC 5-15x40 AO Mildot is actually on clearance for under $250 with the 5% off and lists for around $499 - $651.95.

It's very similar in glass compared to the $699 SWFA SS 3-15x42.

I think even Steve would think this is a real no brainer. It's like an improved version of the Japan Bushnell Elite 3200.
