Need Advice HW30 LDC Removal

I have always thought about removing the factory installed LDC on my HW30 to have the option of using when I want to or remove when not wanted. Perhaps change to a DonnyFL and maybe installing a Carbon Fiber Sleeve like I did on my LGV. So today was the day, I heated that sucker up pretty good with one of those Wenger heat guns and try as I might I was unable to remove it by hand. Then I wrapped it wit painters tape and used a wrench. MISTAKE! The teeth just cut into the tape an made me two small, but visible reminders that I screwed up. That sucker is freaking welded on there good.

At any rate, I would still love to remove it, but don't want to cause any more marks on the existing LDC collar in case it can't be done and I'm stuck with fuggly marks on there.

Thanks!

so the tools you use will be the key and without them you may continue tom fail or do damage

a 6 inch vise mounted to a bench and the vise would need a pair of soft jaws in them to keep the good bits looking good

and maybe some help but if the LDC was factory mounted, glued on and it has a few inches of surface area it will be a tough one

so will heat help, sure but I'm guessing you will have to do it many times but will it reactivate the glue and when it cools, you guess it just glue itself back on or will the glue start to crystalize and give you a break

also a pair of soft jaw pliers would be a great help maybe

that the thing when do this type of work, if you don't have the right tools you can't get it do but with the right tools at least you have a chance but those tools are free

also the heat and a block of wood and a hammer might work but again you have a rifle connected to the barrel that has that pesky LDC mount to it and your goal is not to harm the patient

of course you could leave well enough alone and give up and that might be my advise at this point

not knowing your tool situation from my house that is about all I can suggest

find out the barrel length of your rifle and then measure what is showing and that will get you an idea of glue area

I took off an LDC on a threaded barrel in the last month and the threads were 20mm in length and it took everything I had to get it off and I have all of the above mentioned tools and then some

I don't think the heat gun will get the glue hot enough, I tried a heat gun from work pro model on my LGV muzzle weight with little success. I ended up using a propane torch working fast not to let it cool. To get the nasty glue off I used paint stripper worked a treat mate. Turn up the heat and work fast.

Interesting enough, my LGV muzzle brake just came off....by hand, and I have hands that kinda hurt a little.

I do however have a propane torch 😈

Another option would be purchase an additional barrel. https://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Beeman_R7_HW30S_Barrel_177_Cal/8372

Great idea, but Needs to be threaded.

My mistake, I made the assumption you were going to use a slip-on 15mm adapter from DonnyFl . Will, you have to cut off the dovetail section of the muzzle and recrown?

Nope, I can’t even get a thread off, let alone deal with a re-crown. This is what I’m dealing with:

Put the torch to that puppy heat is the great equalizer, it will come off!

well that is different then i was thinking, stand the barrel on a container of acetone

the only other thing I can thing of is a pin wrench but you would have to drill the holes

do you have an instant cooks thermometer, the one you would see in a Chefs pocket, seeing that I was I'm a chef you can stick that in the barrel and heat away but with it you can tell what the temp is and not guess

I would soak for a day let dry heat repeat

take the stock off the finish will not stand the acetone at all

again it is trial and error but the acetone should be a big help
