Need a lock nut, or something for my tensioned barrel liner.

Hello everyone, hope you’re all having a great weekend.

I have a barrel shroud that used in conjunction with my moderator will tension the barrel on my Impact. Once I get the gun dialed in, I couldn’t ask for better accuracy. At times, I have to remove the moderator and when I put it back on the POI shifts a lot and accuracy can suffer too, until I get it dialed in again.

My question is this…Do any of you know of a thin lock nut or something similar I could use to keep the tension on the barrel when I remove the moderator?

I’ve tried a few different things and looked everywhere but cannot find something that does the job. I finally ended up purchasing a 1/2x20 lock nut and grinding it down so it’s thin and smaller. However, it isn’t perfectly symmetrical and isn’t as thin as I like. I’m OCD and can’t even look at it when it’s in place because it just doesn’t look right.

Anybody got any ideas of something I could use to solve this problem.

Thanks, Kevin

My solution to that problem is a 5 dollar 1/2 to M20 converter adapter from 910airgun.

if the thread is long enough then I’ll just attach the adapter as a locknut/spacer and thread the moderator after it. If it’s not long enough I just use a M20 moderator. If the shroud is smaller than the m20 thread I just add a larger thin metal washer for the m20 moderator to tighten against.

Thank you everyone. I was away from the computer for a while so I just now was able to check out the responses. Elis, thank you for the PM, I’ll keep that in mind. T3P ranch, if I can’t figure it out, I’ll get a hold of you. I bought a new belt sander today so I can clean up what I’ve been doing. I also figured out a way to put the spare nut I bought on a length of all thread and chuck in my lathe, so hopefully that will come out nice and thin, symmetrical and unobtrusive. If that or the other nut I’ve been working on don’t work, I’ll use one of these ideas. Thank you all very much, I really do appreciate it.

Hamstring, I overlooked your first link before I just made my post. The brass nut that you attached a link for is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you. They’re cheap so I’m just going to buy a couple of those and an adapter from Newman at 910 so if things don’t work out, I’ll have another option. I really don’t want to add any length to my barrel so they’re both great options. Thanks!

Have a great evening, Stoti

Got it…I bought an inexpensive better belt sander/grinder at Harbor Freight which made it easier for me to grind down the nut to practically nothing. When I put it on and tightened it down, it actually sucked up inside the carbon tube a bit which held it in place. Now, I slide on the carbon liner, screw it down and the liner and nut act as one piece. There is a tiny gap between the nut and the moderator but it’s hardly noticeable. More importantly, it does what it’s supposed to…Tensions the barrel and allows me to remove the moderator with no POI shift at all. When installed and more than about 2 feet away, it’s not even noticeable. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out, just took a lot longer than planned to make it.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I really appreciate the people on this forum and everyone in our air gun community. This is such a great group.

Stoti!!

I believe that there are a lot of 'toggle' switches or the like that have the nut you are seeking that are used for mounting to panels. Not certain of the thread sizes, but perhaps worth a look see.

Shoot straight!

+ 1 , there are thin nuts on 3 way switch's on electric guitars, not sure of the thread size , i could take one to the hardware store & size it, if it is the size you need , i can send you one, i have a drawer full of this kind of stuff, let me know , roger
