N50 Cards with Anschutz 1907 .22 LR

I had a mission today. Shoot a couple of N50 cards and do some chrono work with the FX Royale 400 .22.

Shot a couple of N50 cards today with the Anschutz 1907. I have been lot testing some new RWS 100 ammo ( RWS 50 is out of stock everywhere ). Wind was very calm, 0-1 MPH or none at all. Good day to shoot, and it was just me at the Sight In 50/100 range. No flags needed and I forgot my Tuner, so this was going to be a good test to see how it would shoot without the Tuner. Shot a 245 and a 250. I use a Randolph Mechanical Front Rest and I had it locked in pretty tight. Pretty sure I could not shoot as accurately with the Bi-Pod and since the fore end is flat, it's not really set up for a Bi-Pod either.

FX Royale 400 .22 - I had recently purchased a new Jam Nut to place over the HST screw, and I wanted to dial it in at 880 FPS range with the JSB 18.1. I did a few chrono runs and although I mostly zero'd at 20 yards today, it did shoot one ragged hole consistently. Moved out to 50 yards and a couple of groups were 1/2" to 1" in size. It's easy to adjust the HST, but I do have to take the stock off to get at it. Two minutes and finished. The ES values are pretty much single digits to 15 FPS spreads generally.

Squirrels - look out!

Thanks guys!

I do want to get back out and try the “in the rings” slug challenge at 100 yards. The Annie did well, but the Safari didn’t do that well on its “maiden voyage” the first time I tried. Posted a 1275 and 1300 out of a possible 2500. Wind was not predictable, so I might wait and cherry pick a milder day.

One would think that it would not be too difficult to put 5 shots in at least one bull (1 1/4” N50 ring) with an Airgun in mild wind conditions at 100 yards. Not easy at all for me. I did not manage to get “one” of the five bulls with five shots all in the ring.

Just goes to show how hard it is to get 5 shots in a 1 1/4” ring with an air rifle.

Whoa Tommy, is that your 1st 250? 16x! Congrats no matter.

had it locked in pretty tight. "

My experience - 22lr likes to be able to recoil some. Snug and/or variations of tightness, not loose. No face, tiny bit of shoulder, pull trigger straight back. When you get a chance try it. But then your method works great - 16x!

Lou

Thanks Lou.

I believe this is my first 250, and I was careful to try and score correctly with the .035” plug. I did manage a 249 one other time and choked on my last (top) row.

Lou - I’m old fashioned and I wrote down your tips on a 3X5 index card, which I will bring with me to the range. Good tips on the .22 LR shooting technique and I’m going to work on and practice.

That’s awesome shooting Tommy! Wow, that must have been so satisfying. I’m very much looking forward to trying the five shots at each bull at 100 yards too. I’m going to try it as soon as I get my RedWolf back from repairs. I’m hoping to shoot my first 250 soon! That shooting session had to put a huge grin on your face lol. Nicely done for sure.

Thanks Dave! Hopefully AoA will test shoot your RW “thoroughly,” B4 they return gun back to you. I’m sure they will do it anyway, but ask.

The slugs in the rings 100 yard challenge is a blast.

Nice!

250 has always escaped me by at least 1 point but that's with the air rifle.

If I ever get my bench built and a calm day maybe I'll get into a perfect score and a few X's????

Thanks Steve!

My highest score with an air rifle is a 246. But, my average range is more realistically in the 235-238 range with the RAW and Safari. Occasionally I break into the low 240 range.

Honestly, for me, it’s a different animal trying to gauge my wind holds with air rifles vs. the Annie 1907 .22 LR. I’m not consistent and it usually takes me a six or seven, then a sighter, then adjust my hold and I may hit several 10’s in a row. That is short lived, and then a another six or 7 is sure to follow.

Incredibly difficult to nail a 250 with an air rifle.

Good luck with new bench. Post a pic when you are all finished.

Brought both the RAW HM1000x .22 HP and the Anschutz 1907 with me to the range today. Weather was good, but today had higher than average wind for bench rest shooting purposes. Wind was 5-8 mph with gusts higher. I think the average was around 5-6 mph when I spot checked with the Kestrel a couple of times. Only deployed a near flag about 7 yards from the muzzle.

Set up first with the Annie and I knew this was going to challenge my wind reading skills a bunch today. Shot about 5 sighters to get zero'd at 50 as best I could. First card was a 245-6X and second card was a 246-10X. Since I again forgot my tuner, this was an N50 Sportsman's Class shooting event today and I scored with the .035" scoring plug.

I used about three or four different holds for each 25-shot card. Sometimes I shot at 12 o'clock on the top of the '10' ring, then at 1:30 o'clock on the 8 ring. Mostly a head wind and right to left blow for both cards. I got caught a couple of times with the wrong hold and had a left to right once or twice too.

I knew I would suck with the RAW, so I kept it in the gun bag today.
