My Verdict on NSA 65.5gr: YEP! 👍

My R5 Matador needed a therapist when it's favorite ammo was discontinued. There was something real special about the 50, 60, and 66 grainers that were a match made in heaven.

Fortunately, I found a compatible replacement for the 60's in the form of the 61.5's, which group about the same - but the new ones hit a lot harder. For a minute, I thought that was going to be the heaviest that would be offered with the new high-speed press offerings, but to my surprise the 65.5's just appeared one day on the NSA website and I ordered a bunch for an audition. I was able to test them today, and I was extremely pleased with the groups at 126.1 meters in VERY gusty winds today in the mountains (30-45mph, and it was cold! 🥶).

I shot these while still tuned for the 54.5's, so only moving around 760fps MV:

Hoping to try an bag some coyotes in the next couple of weeks, but they've been real scarce around my stomping grounds this winter. I'm sure these will drop them on impact!

PS - I had to sneak that one in of my Jeep, otherwise it'll misfire on me the next time I roll out there 🙃

760 fps?

jajaja

Just kidding, those are the same than 66gn (old) with a dish base. I will make some for testing ;)

I can tune them to around 250m/s, but more importantly is calibrating them to hold points on my fixed power scope's reticle in a way that I can commit the holds to memory for day or night hunting.

Wow....nice!! Those will drop the coyotes for sure.

The terminal energy is something else! I put these, the 66gr, and Dale Rigger's 62gr (BHN-7) Varmint Knockers into their own category of heavyweight champions of the smaller bore world.

Here's some photos comparing them (my R5 likes each of these):

I love VK 62gn, only problem is those do not fit my mag, the 66 or 65.5 nsa do

Well get a bigger mag! Oh wait.. you can't! Hahaha 😂

I re-tuned my R5 last night to just under 100FPE. I need to throw one of my bigger scopes on and do a precision test to see how they really stack up against the 62 and 66 grainers, but I suspect they will do well from this testing the other day. The good thing about the 62 and 66 is the holds are nearly the same, but I'm not sure if the 65.5's will require different hold points or not.
