The Road to 200yds (VIDEO)

Nice shooting but at 200 yards and more it's just bragging about how you hit an animal. Any gun with enough shot can hit and animal over 200 and even 300 yards. The point is once you get that far it's a guessing game and you gonna wound the animals. You don't know what the wind is down range. I guess people use pest as traget practice. Even pest deserve a clean and quick kill. Most hunter will not even shoot an animal that far knowing they are more likely to wound it and not clean kill.

When you consider the differences in BC’s including knockdown power, and wind drift between slugs and pellets, 200 yards with slugs isn’t much different than 100 yards with pellets. No one shames those guys though because so many are doing it. With what Bob, Matt and the Air hunters have proved with the slugs at 200 yards (under 1” groups), i think they have opened new doors and you will see many more clean and ethical kills past the 200 mark in the near future.

Hi Bob,

I am curious when you were shooting the Crown did you feel that you were not going to get the yardage you were planning for?

I am a Crown owner and thought that I needed a new Impact. I spoke with Mike at Utah and in the end, decided to work with the Crown.

I have a .25 caliber, and the first slug barrels that came to market were the 600mm, so I went for it. Now I think that was a mistake and have never shot it.

May I get your thoughts and or others thoughts?

Thank you,

Eamon

Eamon,

If you crave power and distance there is no doubt you will get more with a 700mm barrel. The question is, how far is far enough? My longest kill on a pigeon is at 236 yards. And I have many many kills at or just over the 200 yard mark. If you go through the 68 whiskey videos you will see me kill woodchucks out to 189 I believe. Long story short, the crown is an awesome airgun. You do not need to change what you have done. You will have to dial a little more elevation, and hold a little more wind. But if you have seen our videos you know that the crown is more than capable of killing past two hundred. One hundred is not all that challenging even if it is calm out. I think you made the right choice.

Fyi i I am slinging 36 grain slugs at 850 fps from my 600mm barrel

Keith,

I just watched your video. I finally felt is someone was saying something to me straight up. I fell like I have a green light.

By going to RMAC and with the greatest of help from Steve of Hard Air Magazine, he explained tunes and what the differences are. Hunting and target. Duh Eamon.

Now it seems okay to use the slug liner,

Thank you very much!

Another fine video and sharing of information on slug capabilities and shooting techniques. I have shot numerous prairie dogs and groundhogs out to six hundred yards and beyond and it is about learning you gun capabilities and using the equipment and techniques to get the job done. My main goal is to help the farmers out ridding pests. If I can get it done close up fine, if not I welcome the increased range slugs are giving us. Bill
