My Sig Sauer ASP20 .22 has arrived! Some thoughts and some Chrony results.

that's a really neat pellet-sizer ! did you make that yourself - o - i should read more closely.... brass , huh.... you must have a really cool shop.... so - not only is the bore a bit narrow ( so forget using english .22 calbre-types like ely wasp) , but the lands and grooves are not at all honed a bit at the breech (loading) area....that is a bit of a conundrum ! i'm thinking that even if a person buys softer lead - like jsb lites , which are sized at 5.50 mm , the very end of the skirt would crimp upon forcing it into the barrel... is that a decent portrayal ?

Yes, I made it. Body is a 3/4" red brass pipe nipple with threaded ends removed and milled. Die, spacer, and plunger are a hard grade of brass. Plunger is held in body with a 3/16" roll pin. I might make a die out of cold rolled steel. Brass is so much easier to work with though.

I'm not totally sure why the velocities are better with this sizer. May be due to a better sealing edge of the skirt. The die might be producing a more true circumference which seals better. It might be due to less pellet drag in the barrel from the slight reduction in diameter. It might be a combination of all of these factors. I had the Beeman sizer back in the 80's with all of the various .22 and .20cal dies. I had great velocity improvements then so I thought " Why Not ". I will make my own. I ended selling the Beeman die set back in 2008 on Ebay for something around $130. Wish I had kept it. Wish I had keep my .20cal Beeman RX1 (HW90) as well. I loved that airgun.

FYI....I just purchased a digital reloading powder scale and weighed several pellets. Just as I suspected, when I used a triple beam scale, the Sig alloy Wraith pellet labeled as 12.35gr actually weigh 13.25gr on average. The Sig Crux alloy pellet labeled as 10.3gr actually weigh 9.6gr on average. That puts my FPE at 22.7 on average for both pellets. Close to Sigs claim of the ASP20 being a 23 FPE gun. I plan on weighing pellets for uniformity when I start shooting groups. Most of the lead pellets I weighed were close to their rated weights.

First off...thanks for all the reviews and info you all post on this site. After becoming partially handicapped over the past year and giving up some of my more active past times I have become slightly obsessed with Pellet guns and shooting. 3 guns and 2000 shots later since July of 18

I got my ASP20 6 days ago from Pyramid Air after reading many reviews and finally got a chance to start zeroing in the scope last night. Attached is a 5 shot group shot sitting at 33.25 yards with crosman premier domed

14.3 grain pellets...this is an impressive gun.

Nice group ! Yes, the ASP20 is a great airgun. I've been reading all the reviews Tom Gaylord has been doing on this rifle. I also have been absorbing his pieces (as well as others who have written on the same topic) on the artillery hold. I was totally holding my rifle improperly and probably was contributing to my accuracy problems. Can't wait for better weather to put into practice what I have learned. So far it appears the Sig Wraith alloy pellet is the most accurate. They are listed as 12.35gr but my batch average 13.25gr. Muzzle velocity of 880 fps.

Flyguy--You are right these are very impressive rifles. Totally satisfied with mine. The Crosman HP pellets 14.4 gr. that I ran across my crony on 12/17 had an avg. of 870. That was the lightest I had. The one that I use is AA 16 gr. and is running almost 800 fps-- about 795/810. Just shoot it and enjoy it. It will make you feel good with the accuracy.

How great would it be if Sig offered a rebate or coupon to all of us that bought this gun before the scope/combo was available so we could get the same deal equivalent as if we had bought the combo.

I have a UTG scope on mine now and would happily pay $150 which is what they claim the combo price difference would be for the Whiskey Scope.

That would have been nice but so far my 3-9 40 UTG is holding up and I like it. What other aitguns do you have ?

My 1st was an impulse buy Crosman Fire .177 from Dicks Sporting Goods and then a .22 Benjamin Titan both super cheap but I have done the bearing trigger mods on both and upgraded the scopes to the UTG 3-9x40. Since it’s cold weather here I have a shooting setup for out of my living room window with spinner targets from 25-65 yds. The Fire is surprisingly accurate out even to 65 with a 10gr dome but the Titan is best at 30-35. The Sig is in a league of its own.

I am not unhappy with the UTG but having a scope designed specifically for this gun would worth the money.

I considered going the PCP route but after lots of research am glad I bought the ASP20

That quarter should have the heading, Don't Tread on Me,or ELSE ! pretty neat. The data you put up is very interesting,I'm anxious to see the data as far accuracy.

I have posted accuracy results on a couple occasions. Only 30ft though. VETNUTT and SALTWATERFLYGUY13 have also posted results with the .22 cal ASP20. Watch the video on the Sig Asp20 that was done at Airgun Depot. Or read the reviews Tom Gaylord did on this rifle. Plenty of accuracy information out there.
