My shoebox setup

I got the parts for this setup at Harbor Freight. All the parts are 1/4 inch which made connection simple. Oil/warer seperator p.n 68246 and desicant filter p.n. 68215. The desicant filter turns from blue to pink when it needs replacing or drying. This setup was under 20 bucks to assemble and works good.
 
"badammo"Works well so far, I have pumped my bottle and a few guns up with no issues. The blue desicant will remove excess moisture from the air and filter any debris from the air hose. For less than 20 bucks it is great.
There isn't much desicant in that little filter. After I emptied it the first time and realized how small it really was I took a piece of black pipe and 2 end caps and made a gigantic filter. Got the silica beads from Amazon pretty cheap. If you pick up a couple of those "coily" hoses for a couple dollars each they do a great job of collecting the moisture. Put your primary compressor on the floor and the SB over top so the air has to go up, allowing for gravity to remove some of the moisture as it rises.

I put the clear filter after the homemade one so I can tell the condition of the beads without opening it up.

I agree with BigTinBoat. The hoses make the best water traps. I run one of those cheap inline traps in between two long hoses and it is as useless as the pope's cock. I get quite a bit of condensate in both lines and virtually nothing in the trap. Like he said, If you elevate the connections the water will collect in the low spots. A large desiccant filter like that one is probably all you need to keep the booster and your bottle dry.

This is the same setup I use. I too use the hose below the ShoeBox to help collect before the traps. I have filled my tanks and rifles several time and haven’t found any moisture issues yet. 

I love the pipe bomb idea. Know what I will be doing this weekend!

Does either one of you run a filter between the shoebox and the tank/gun being filled?
Yes it just run of the mill pipe, I think 1.25" from home depot.

I have not used a high pressure filter in the past as I usually run the compressor in an air conditioned room with low humidity.

I did just picked up on of these 4500psi filter for $25 (he took best offer) to use in the higher humidity.

The flow through the desicant is really low with this type of booster, so the Harbor Freight one should be fine. There is nothing wrong with more desicant though. 
My shoebox sits on the work bench and I have not seen any moisture in the water trap so far.
I am more concerned with filtering the air on the inlet side of the unit as debris and such is more likely from the compressor tank and hose.
 
Ok - just got home and here is my set up.
Air comes out of Norge on top and goes thru red hose down to floor. Then it raises up the coily hose to the homemade filter on first shelf. Then up the next coily hose thru the "trap" (which I have NEVER seen water in) and into the shoebox. It exits the bottom of shoebox, thru the HPA filter and up the hose into the tank.
You'll notice my F8 has an attached fan. but i' also have an $8 Walmart fan wire-tied to end of shelf for double cooling.
