My RedWolf is Making Air Gun Shooting Dull

Hey All

After rekindling my love for Airguns a few years back, I simply fell in love with the sport. So much so that I built a 100 yard range on my property just for Airguns.

I spent hundreds of hours tweaking my Airguns. I especially loved my 22cal Daystate AurWolf, 25 cal FX Impact, 22 cal AirArms S510, 177 cal RAW TM1000 and finally my 25 cal FX Crown. The results were amazing and I loved the sport even more.

This spring I took delivery of a Daystate RedWolf Rosso One in 25 Cal. I mounted a new Vortex Viper Gen II PST, adjusted the trigger position, changed it to mid power and hit my range. After a sight-in with Sports Match Adjustable Rings, I was awestruck. Shot after shot stacked on top of each other at 50 yards. No need for adjustments, just JSB MKII 34.95 grain pellets stacking like a laser beam.

I was so shocked that I had to show my wife. She uses an Anshutz MPR 22LR Rifle with a Nightforce SHV Scope and eley ammo on the range and she couldn’t match my groupings. We were both in awe of the RedWolf.

Here is a picture from my range today while I was feeding the Grey Jays:

This is where my problem started. The precision of the RedWolf made airgunning boring. While I could get very close to this accuracy with my Airwolf, Impact and Crown, the RedWolf was doing it straight out of the box. Somehow, the precision didn’t feel earned or particularly amazing.

I think I miss fiddling with my Airguns and trying to eek more accuracy from them. Somehow, I think the RedWolf has stolen the mystery and accomplishment I found with my other Airguns. I know this might seem weird, but after an afternoon of shooting, this is sort of how I feel. Has anyone else experienced this feeling with the RedWolf?

It seems this range looks familiar. Didn't you post some pictures of it last year when you were building it? Sure looks like a fantastic place to shoot. You are blessed.

And yes, my Redwolf in .22 is about the same way. But of course I can't just leave it like that. I want to be able to shoot the 18 gr pellets on low for my 25m matches. I have it shooting about 905 on low, but I think I'm going to bump it down just a bit to maybe 875-880 and see how they fly. Of course if it isn't want I want, I can always put it back where it was.

Lovin my Redwolf.

I did post pics last year. Since then I’ve extended it a full 100m from the original 88m. Gotta say, it’s the best addition to my property ever. I absolutely love it.

I wish i had your problems. lol. Maybe set up some very small spinner targets on your trees at varying distances and heights. Make a circuit to complete. I did that on my range before i sold it. Sadly. Paper can get tedious. Put paintballs on golf tees at 100 yards. Make it fun. I really liked the bird on your barrel and your range is awesome.

Awesome gun. One thing though, I can just about guarantee it won’t be boring shooting at EBR in the swirling winds. It’ll totally be up to you and not your gun whether or not you keep all your shots in the red... My .30 FX Bobcat is just as accurate as your RW and I can tell you, it isn’t easy... or boring.
