My Precious

I was playing with the slug barrel today. 5 shots, 60 yards, 39 gr slug I cast from an NOE Mold.

12-13 mph wind,900 fps. The bottom left hole was made by screwdriver blade as an aiming point.

4 in one hole, 5th shot touching on top left. Very pleased!l!

Dang!I thought I was good, then...I saw this! 😮 💨

thank you Sir! High Praise indeed. It will get better. JSAR is sourcing me a dedicated slug barrel as I write this. the barrel that shot this group is a Brownells .22 short barrel liner. It is double wrapped with thick walled CF Twill tubing, and I will be adding a third wrap probably tonight.

the Brownell's Gunsmithing Supplies Barrel liners are available in 1-16 and 1-20 twist. The outside dimensions are the same as the FX liners for the impact .22, but are at a very low cost. 35 bucks + shipping. An unreal deal. they are made by REDMan for Brownell's if I am not mistaken. they are button rifled with very smooth bores.

Unfortunately, it cannot use the JSAR barrel tensioning system. It would give more accuracy with it. As a prototype, it does not have the latest 4 way trigger adjustments. that too is being provided shortly.

I cast all slugs with either 20-1 or 40-1 lead-tin mix. Depending on the mold. All are sized, as a mold never throws all bullets perfectly round. Sizing assures concentric bullets. ;<)

That is great Knife. And to think people still dismiss cast bullets. Sure swagging guarantees a uniform bullet with very little difference in weight. But what’s the fun in that , asking inspecting and sizing brings a whole new aspect to this shooting sport. Keep it up , and can’t wait to see that .172 barrel shoot.

I’m rethinking which platform to use right now for that barrel, so far the K550 is winning. It doesn’t have a conventional probe to push the bullet into the bore which is wayyyyyyy better for such a small projectile.

Didn't you lilts the K550 for sale? You know, I was considering coming up wit the money to buy it from you. I wanted, and have wanted a bottle gun for years. However, I put a 500 cc CF bottle on the Raptor Mini. So I guess I'm there. LOL Woo-Hoo!!!

I am anxious to hear how the Impact is doing with the slug liner in .22 Spill it! :<) And I am still wanting ti know how the modded slugs are doiing. Well???

Are you going to be able to be home for Christmas?

If swagged are near perfect, exactly why do we weigh the top of the line JSB pellets for weight consistency? Huh, Huh---Tell me THAT! LOL :<) +1

I was actually thankful that I didn’t get too many replies on the K550. The listing ended and I’m going to keep it. I know the Impact is a definite shooter with the “ slug liner” liking both the 25grain redesigned and the 23 grain NSA bullets. I have since added a plenum and got it shooting at over 60FPE. Now I just need to cast up some of the new NOE 218-25 RG HP bullets and let them fly.
