My (new to me) Theoben Evo (thanks Kingfisher!)

Beautiful gun. Always admired those Theobens!

R

Thanks much for the kind words. I used to have a Beeman RX2 that was in perfect condition and sold it. Regretted losing it ever since. Never could afford the Theoben in my youth but when the opportunity came up to acquire this airgun I just couldn't pass on it.

Bill

I’m curious how the gas rams in these guns hold up over time? Do they have good longevity as these guns age?

I hope it shoots as well as it looks!

I believe for the most part that the Theoben gas rams hold up over time very well. There are always reports of gas rams leaking. I had a Beem RX2 with Theoben gas ram and it held its pressure for years and years. The gas rams from Theoben are easily re-buildable. I also believe that the replaceable parts like the piston crown (seal) will new tougher and tougher to acquire because they aren't being made anymore. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Theoben was not known for having pretty wood. That represents some of the best wood I’ve ever seen, and I’ve owned and handled more than a few. If you lined up 10 Theoben rifles, that would likely be the best one of the bunch.

And they are such excellent shooters. I actually like the lighter powered rifles. I have one of the similar older European models. With very pretty wood.

enjoy!

They are excellent shooters!!! I played around with the power on mine and settled on 12.6 fpe with 10.34 JSBs... Will just stack them at 30 yards!

Beautiful gun you have there for sure!!! Will bring you years of smiles!!!

This was 5 shots a couple weeks ago from the bench!

Hi Mike - thanks for your perspective on the Theoben. I have wanted one since the very early days of Theoben. Now that I'm much older and retired I finally treated myself to a nice one. I am with you 100 percent regarding the lighter powered ones.

I'ver heard that you are a good marksman and this target proves it. Very nice group. I'm sure that you get the most out of what any airgun can deliver. Once I get this rifle and my new range setup I will be seeing what it will do. I'll be sure to post some photos. Thanks for your many kind words about my (new to me) classic Theoben.

Is yours a 177 or 22?

Thanks for sharing. Theobens are underrated. Still the best breackactioned airrifle out there.

Regretted I sold my Olympus in .177cal. Still have a Theoben Classic in .25cal which I bought in 1995. Still as accurate as new.

I would love to acquire an Olympus. I believe I agree with you that Theoben are still the best break action rifles and maybe the best undercover rifles too but it's all pretty subjective.

Thanks for your comments - how about posting some photos of your TB.

I apologize for this rant. It's my understanding that that the TBs were all hand made or hand assembled. Most if not all the newer ones used CNC milled parts. Some say that the older TBs were the best. I am no expert on the brand but I've owned older TBs and newer ones. My latest TB was made in 2010 so it's considered a newer one and also an "introductory" model. My opinion is that it's made every bit as well as the more vintage TBs. Time will tell. The stock is light years better. The trigger is better. I like it a lot. This gun is in no way a perfect example but it's very nice none the less. I have a museum grade HW55M and a still new in the box FWB Sport. I'm half afraid of using them because I don't want to hurt them. I know it's rediculous. But one thing is sure, I am really going to like my Evo; shooting it and lovingly caring for it.

Wow! What a great looking rifle. Shooting it has to be pure pleasure. Hope you enjoy it for years to come.

Thanks much. Yes, she's a beaut. I am still getting it all sorted out. Based on what I learned from others I will set it up at around 13 FPE and try various pellets. The sweet spot should be around 12.5 - 13 FPE depending on the pellet. It will be fun.
