My new FX Crown 25, first 100 yard "groups"...

I got a new permission this morning at a nearby farm, I can shoot at least 300 yards, haven't really measured, great setup, except its wide open to the wind...

A lot of wind today, going back to shoot some more later, trying to get ready for the Trenier 100 this weekend in Sparta, WI...

I just thought I'd share my zeroing shots and first groups...

I tuned my FX Crown for JSB 25.3s, 930 FPS...

I'm going back later to see if the wind dies down a bit, it was steady at about 15 MPH straight across from right to left, gusting to 20mph with me shooting almost due south... 1st time shooting this far with this rifle... I'll try and do better next time... I might adjust my stocks butt plate a little bit, see about a better grip and hold... Need to concentrate on my follow through a lot more too for these distances... I know I pulled a couple shots pretty bad...

Ken

Thanks for the tip on JSBs, I will turn it down a lil and chrono it again and see what it does at the lower speeds... I'm sure the rifle can do better, I had to start somewhere with the tune, I got the settings from a sponsors website as a starting point... I know I can do better... I'm just trying to keep it on the 6" target in these winds, I had to go get my bottles filled with air, I have a great new permission, very close to home, can shoot 200-300 yards there safely no problem... And the owner is in "disbelief" of what my Crown can do already, I am bringing my other guns this afternoon so the property owner can shoot with me, I'll have to setup some targets at 50 yards too... I am pleased so far with my FX Crown shooting at 100 yards, in the wind, first time, not too bad for an old blind guy with a broken back... I'll try and do better this afternoon...

That's some pretty tough wind conditions for an airgun and 100 yds. But I gotta give you an "A" for effort!

Show us what that baby can do when you get a calm to no wind day. Love the green laminate!

Fuss

Thanks... This is the only warm up and practice I've had in decades shooting at this distance with anything, and really first time out with the new FX Crown, I have to compete Saturday, I just don't want to make a fool of myself...

I know, Isn't it a beautiful air gun...??? I originally thought green, no way, then when I seen it in person, wow, had to go with the green...

Well, if the rifle and me can keep it on the 6" target in these conditions, I know the rifle is doing pretty well... If I know when and where I release and shoot the groups and not chase zero I can at least get a handle on my hold, trigger squeeze and follow through... I've been at the range I'll be shooting at Saturday previously and the wind won't be giving any breaks there... I can tell I need to adjust my stock and possibly move my scope just a little bit... I hope I can get a break from the wind this afternoon and see some groups, I've been using the pellets that didn't make the grade when sorting and weighing to get started (not an excuse, just fact), I'll be using weighed and sorted pellets this afternoon... Wish me luck...

Ken

Me too...!!! I'm impressed with the rifle, I'll be heading back to my new permission in a while for round two...I always post real world groups, it's pretty easy to see the winds effect on my first "groups"... I started on the top left target, two rounds on the lower target were from zeroing the scope, The elevation looks pretty good so far, I don't have a lot of time to play with the tuning, I will dial it down a bit and try the speeds previously recommended... I really just want to get the scope dialed in as best I can today, zero the turrets and be ready for Saturday... I'm competing Saturday to have fun but I don't want to make a fool out of myself...

Ken

good luck Ken 👍

Thank you...!!!

BTW: I did order a .177 Pellet probe for my Dreamline Tactical (for HFT matches) and a 22 pellet probe for my Crown, I should be able to use all three barrels on my Crown and two of them for now on my Dreamline Tactical... I will have to swap shrouds to use on the Dreamline Tac... I'll post some follow up and photos when the parts arrive...

Off to shoot some more... Photos to come...

Ken

Ok, so the wind sucked, I still decided to try and put some groups together... First a photo of where I am shooting... I did say "wide open" didn't I...???

Since this mornings shoot, I did adjust my stock a bit, and shifted my scope back on the rail a little, I may move it back to the original position... So I shot a first group, I think six shots, walked 100 yards to take this photo... I had a break in the wind, I tell the truth, the bull shots were the first three, I almost walked out to take a photo...

I took a little break as the wind really sucked badly, a photo of some of the local wildlife, they wanted to share in my brownies...

The wind was pretty steady out of the west at about 15 mph still, with some short breaks, I didn't want to overstay my welcome on my first day at a new permission, so I shot another group, I think six more, I'll have to count... I then walked out to take another photo... Here's the second group...

The two shots high and wide I pulled, I seen my POA at the break... Not too shabby for an old blind guy...

It was a beautiful day no matter the wind, I met some great people, I have permission to go there and shoot again... There's more, but I'll save it for another time perhaps, it was a lot of walking, the clover and hay was about mid calf, the owner said the field will be cut down this week and I was welcome to come practice again, I told him I'd wait and look for a break in the wind, perhaps in the morning one day, we exchanged phone numbers and contact info, I picked up my area, packed my things and thanked him for allowing me to shoot on his property and I left... There's even a two track he allowed me to take my truck down to setup the target and trap... I took another photo before leaving...

Yes, it was a great day to get out, I am glad I took a drive to find a new permission...!!!

Awesome. Great rifle. I love my crown. I still prefer it over the impact if caliber is equal.

i too started with the 25 grain. If you switch to the 34 grain your whole wind world will be better. Slugs even more so. But if you want to shoot pellets please buy some original 34 grainers and some mkII 34 grainers and see which shoot better. Mine shot them great at 860, all the way up to 895. But the gun was happy and so was the shot count at 860. The other benefit of the 34 grain is they eventually need less holdover because of improved bc I want to say it was around 150 yards But the wind bucking compared to the 25 grain will make your jaw drop.

Ps. They hit game significantly harder too.

I have 2000 sorted 34 grain JSBs, others have been telling me the 25.3s are the one to shoot, I have about seventy five 25.3s left to shoot Saturday, I don't have time to tune for the 34s, I shot a few yesterday with my 25.3 tune, they fell about 10" in elevation with the same scope settings, don't know what speed my Crown was shooting the 34s... I may just break out some H&N rabbit magnums and sling em down range... I think I may setup my Dream Tac to do this 100 yard shooting after this competition, possibly 30 cal, I like my Magpul grip and adjustable LOP stock, I am more comfortable with an AR style grip... I do like my crown, I need to practice, practice, practice...
