My Independence is not holding air..I am going to cry!!

I went out for pigeons today and all was going well at the start dropped two clean in a stiff wind and then 4 clean starling hits ...then I noticed that the presure was not holding in my PCP ..I pumped it up to 3000 psi and it dropped at the speed of the second hand on a watch to 2200 and then very slowly over the next 5 min dropped to 1600 and settled ..I feel really bummed out right now for sure and ideas friends? ...or is it back to Air Gun Source to try to get it fixed up
Thanks so much for your help
Jonathan

Depending on how far you took it down it might have been nothing more than a spec of dirt in the valve ( you dropping by the second hand seem to indicate a rather large leak and the main firing valve is the most likely then ).
IF you owned a first model, send it back, issues with chrome plating (?) thread rod crumbs getting in the internals but ( as far as I know ) that issue was fixed long ago.

Pretty simple rig to work on and in the US I have heard of one person ( who had an original model ) getting all the rebuild and replacement parts sent to them free so they could do the repair themselves, and, that finished the warranty which was fine in his case.

LOVE Windex for finding leaks.

If the issue comes back and you dig into it again please keep us posted, and pictures are always great.

I would suggest you try to give it a quarter turn when the gun is pressurized. If you can't move the gauge, then you need to empty the gun.

I suggest you empty the air cylinder, unscrew the air gauge, check the O-ring for dings and proper lube, then tighten it down .

After you re-pressurize the gun, a bit of soapy water around the threads would be the quickest way to see if anything is "bubbling" out. Usually the air is hot right after pumping and your pressure will drop as the compressed air cools. It can drop a couple hundred psi, just from heat. Just pump it up to max and let it cool again. Then, after a couple hours, you will have an accurate starting point with psi, and any loss will be due to a slow leak and not cooling.

EDIT: Glad to hear you got it fixed! It's a simple problem that has driven a lot of pcp owners nuts trying to locate the source.

Spysir, thanks was thinking about the soapy water trick lol...I did take a few pics and have to load them through photo bucket as there is a part that the owners manual does not list and I want to know what it does as it has been hand tight since i bought it new ...its a brass round adjustment just in front of the air tank connection
i will get a pick up asap

"1kshooter"Anyone know what the heck that thing does lol
That's the pressure relief valve ,it preloads a spring and a valve, unfortunately mine is leaking!(it should not be tight)
Travis and Kirk helped me diagnose a leak the other day soap works great, mine is going back for a re seal in the next week or so,good luck with your's..kelly
