My first Sumatra

I just picked up a nice 22 caliber Sumatra from my good friend Lee Chiu, after installing a scope and making a smaller LDC for it so I could test it in my back yard I was ready to go. I was really surprised at the power and accuracy of this gun, I had not realized just how powerful they are. I shot a few magazines at 50 yards and was getting a ragged one hole group. The air got low so I went and filled the gun, the first shot let out an almighty crack, it must have been on full power and it was enough to give me a supersonic crack with 18.1gn pellets. After dialing it down just a notch it was under the sound barrier and the smaller LDC was working great, the impact was louder than the report and should be good enough not to upset my neighbors.
I am really impressed with the accuracy and power of this gun, I am sure it is capable of going out a lot further than 50 yards, before I had the scope sighted in the first pellet struck the bottom of my very heavy target and put a very large dent in it, my other guns would just leave a small mark on it, it must be putting out a lot more power than my 34fpe Pneuma;s and AAS410.
It might be a bit more than I need for my target shooting but I really needed to get one for my prototype work, I would highly recommend this gun to anyone who wants an accurate gun for hunting smaller critters out to 50 yards and more, Neil.

If you shoot it with the power set to the highest the first couple of shots will go up before quickly falling. But here's the kicker the only pellet that doesn't shoot hot with this setting are the 43 gr Eun Jun pellets. On my 25 cal I have to set the power at 6 out of 13 to keep the 31 gr Barracuda pellets under 1000 fps. With the power set on 6 it has a nice curve and I get about 18 shots. With my 22 cal I use the 18 gr JSBs and can get about 24 shots from 2900 -to 2000 psi.

Manny I have just tried it out to 60 yards with a target made for PB's, with the power on full the thing was making a supersonic crack and the pellets really whacked the target, I had got the lighter pellets in it and did not realize they were only 15.8gn and not my 18.1gn that I had used before. I turned it down a bit and still the pellets are leaving indentations in the 3/8th steel paddles, this thing sure has some punch behind it. Now I can see why you like them for hunting! Neil.

Hi guys,

First time posting here. I have the .22 cal carbine version. I really like it. With the power wheel at its lowest setting, its shoots JSB Monster 25.4 grain pellets at an average of 949 FPS for the 1st 6 shot clip (50 ft/lbs of ME, ES of 48, SD is 19) and 896 FPS for the 2nd clip (45 ft/lbs of ME with ES of 58, SD of 22). I put a foster adapter on it last month (finally!!) as the original probe's O rings were getting worn from filling. I'm waiting on some Straton Monsters to run them through the chrony. The shot strings run high to low - I haven't found a bell curve yet.

Cheers .......... Dan

Wow that's shooting pretty hot with 25.4grain pellets. I don't have a chrony so I have no idea what mine is shooting them at, I do know that I really had to back off the power wheel when I loaded some 15.8 grain pellets by mistake, the crack shooting them was awful, I felt sure I was going to get a visit from someone in uniform, lol. I wonder how many cops will believe I was just shooting an air rifle. I was given the choice between the carbine and the full size gun but chose the larger on, I felt sure the carbine was going to have a low shot count maybe I was wrong! I will try it on full power with some 21 grain pellets and see how they work, will post more later, Neil.

I can tell you that on the third click the 15.8 gr pellets are in the 900 fps (around 940 fps). On full power they are over 1100 fps.
