My first custom stock

I'm with Steve, that's maple, not walnut. And the stain looks like aqua Fortis to me, as @austin870 mentioned. I build flintlocks here and there, and it's a common and effective staining method. And very good looking too. 

You'll never see this since you blocked me, but that's a nice looking stock there Mike, I hope you shoot that one.

Make sure and post what Paul says it's made of. The collective would like to know, for sake of accuracy. 
 
So I had a "chat" with the maker Paul, he says it is curly maple and he used 2 different color stains on it. He made the stock for himself along with a twin that is much lighter in color. He say his stocks are almost all named, mine is called Espresso with the twin is named Cappuccino.

Thank you for the update. It is a very nice stain job when most people think maple is walnut.
