My first custom stock

Although I love the rare factory and classic stocked guns in my collection I thought I'd try a custom stock for a change. This is a custom Paul Bishop stock that arrived a few days ago. It has adjustable cheekpiece and inward angled recoil pad like the Diana 75. Any of my R9's, R10 or R11's will fit in it (except the R11 MKI) so I thought it was a good choice. The fit is very nice but it is used and there are a few small marks here and there but nothing glaring. For now my R9 .177 with barrel sleeve is in it, I may eventually try my R9/R11 .20 hybrid at some point and use it for FT...

Actually I think the wood is Curly Maple and Paul did some stain work to get it to that color. He did that quite a bit and worked with Maple a lot. Have seen his work in person and he is very talented. Wood looks to be very tight grain and almost glass finish and that is characteristic of maple and his work.

That is quite possible. Those type of tiger stripes are very common with curly maple and not hard to come by at all. They use ferric nitrate and a heat gun to get that walnut natural coloring especially the red/orange tones. Then they layer/shade in the brown/black stain with stains on a rag wet with alcohol. It is not done with just normal stains. I have seen some incredible stocks done this way.
