I hear the FX eats batteries although taking them out while not in use may help. Others that rely on light can be finicky Until you figure out the light they need to werq correctly.
I have one of the Shooting Chrony Beta units. I have had it for ten or fifteen years. It folds in half so has a small footprint for storage and goes in my range bag so I always have it. Easy to set up in a minute or two. When outdoors put it in the shade, or shade the sensors, and you don't need the diffusers. Indoors a couple of cheap Harbor Freight LED lights make it werq well. The 9V battery is said to last for 48 hours for me that is six months to a year. It is definitely old school tec though.
