My experiance with POI change on smooth twist X barrels.

I am a owner of 3 FX guns with smooth twist X barrels, a wildcat mk2, a crown, and a impact. In my experiance the main reason for POI change is the barrel leading up. By that I mean if I experiance POI drifting while sitting on the bench on a calm day. I have 3 calibers, .177, .22, and .25. Of those I own 2 .177 barrels, as I bought barrel kits for my impact. Of all the barrels I own, only one of the .177 barrels seems to be stable over prolonged time without POI shifting much, shooting pellets out of the box. After allot of cleaning, and also tried some JB bore paste on a couple of them (which did help some), the most reliabe fix for me have been to clean the barrel, and lube the pellets. I am now using napier pellet lube, on the white pads inside the JSB pellet box. My .177 wildcat did shoot pretty good unlubed, but there was slightly POI shift as I sat on my bench. Also got some flyers. After a barrel clean, and lubed pellets, POI was much more stable, and also less flyers appeared. If I know the barrel doeas not like to be shot dry, I tune the gun with lubed pellets. I have not much experiance with other more traditional barrels, but in my experiance the smooth twist X barrels does like to be clean inside.

My shooting partner and I both own Wildcat mk1's and both shoot JSB 18s right from the tin. I've owned my Wildcat for years and have never needed to clean the barrel and accuracy is always spot on, while his Wildcat needs regular cleaning or his POI shifts.

I thought the regular smooth twist could be shot on long intervals without cleaning? Maybe your shooting partner should try some lube on the pellets after his next barrel clean, to see if it helps on his gun also?

I also own 3 FX: bobcat, boss and impact, all three have original S/T barrels and all 3 shoot well and I rarely clean them.I have washed and lubed (napier) most tins but on occation I open a tin and send them down range without wash or lube. I can put my guns away for weeks and even months without POI shift. I stand them in my safe leaning on their barrels lift them from the safe by their barrels and often carry them by the scope. Maybe the new liners are more susceptible/sensitive than the older solid barrels.
