My AV Compressor Had a Major Fail

I was topping off one of my 75's yesterday. Everything was going great and then I heard a different sound and then it got quite, only the motor running. I had an idea what happened so today I pulled it apart and found the motor shaft snapped in half just behind the crank. Upon inspection both cylinders and pistons appear to be in perfect condition. No other internal damage to the housing either. This could be the end of the AV unless I can get a motor at a decent price, that's if I can actually find one. Who knows maybe someone has an AV that's terminal but has a good motor for sale. I'll call AV Monday and see what they say.

Also looking at the break in the shaft I see some discoloration that probably means something as far as the reason for the failure.

I think shipping would kill me on both ends. Probably looking at close to $100 each way plus the price of the motor. I think all the compressor in this range are Chinese made and it's just the luck of the draw to get one that will last.

STO, thinks for the input I was really hoping someone with some stress/corrosion failure background would know something about the discoloration and cause. That might help me plead my case with AV..

Well, For the time being there is hope. I called AV (Pyramid Air) to talk to one of the techs. He was busy but Stacey (i believe was her name) help me. After describing my problem and thinking I needed a new complete motor she asked if it was the armature shaft that was broken. I said yes and she said she thought they had that part. I'll be damned if they didn't.

So now I'm in the progress of removing the broke one and waiting on the new one to be here Tuesday. Hopefully and keeping my fingers crossed it'll work out.
