My AAA EVOL 30 Setup

In regards to slugs - I have the Magnon if that makes any difference. Can you provide a link to the slugs you use? Thank you

Best bet is to buy an assortment of these Nielson swaged slugs along with some additional 65 grainer's, not in the assortment package deal. Then shoot them to see which weight has the tightest group size.

Dale Riggert (Varmint Knockers) sells the 62 grain ammo that I use with my EVOL. Second to those are the NSA 65.5s, but frankly - the other NSA slugs in .30 are pretty abysmal unless your shooting at close range or without any wind.

We have new 22 moderators. They are a collaboration between us and STO. AAA made housing and STO core designed specifically for the EVOL 22. They are extremely quiet and still very compact.

STO put a lot of effort into the core design using the their extremely precise measuring equipment and our housing is designed to perfectly match the EVOL barrel system with perfect concentricity. Additionally, the new moderator is full backwards compatible with existing units.

If you need more, a larger third party unit may may offer some further reduction but I'm very confident that the new unit will be more that adequate for the most sensitive environments.

30 caliber moderators are next in the development cycle.

@slayer What are the chances that you and the guy's at STO could come up with a few of these moderators for the Slayer models? I'd be interested in buying one for both the 357 and 452. The Ronin is absolutely huge on there now.

We will have something for the Slayers soon; it's been in the works for awhile.

Good to hear. Thanks Tom.

@Dairyboy

I am starting to tune it for BR with 44gr JSB.

It came at 2100 psi reg and max speed of 930fps.

I want to lower the speed with a balanced reg pressure to around 850 - 860, then start to go higher and see the results at 100 yards.

With the current pressure lowering the HS at 850fps the shot to shot consistency is terrible, it goes from 850 to around 870 and in between.

Today I shot it until empty then lowered the pressure to 1900 psi. I will test it on tuesday afternoon at the range.

Moderators available?

The proper tool for the barrel nut is a pin style spanner 1.125 OD with a 0.156" diameter pin. Most industrial suppliers like McMaster Carr have many to choose from. We have made some custom spanners for internal use and when there is time to make more they will be available to purchase.

@Slayer can we get a small production run of these made with the Slayer logo on them?

When we make more we can have EVOL on one side and Slayer on the other....

Another well engineered piece of kit for the American Air Arms line of rifles. Thanks Tom!

Those look pretty cool!

I spent a little time on figuring out how to setup this rifle, and what ammo to shoot from it. Decided that it would suit me best as a hunting rifle for larger small game (up to raccoon size) out to 150m, and coyote size game inside of 100. Collapsable / adjustable stock with a flat spot for rear bag was in my list, so I wound up putting a Magpul SL on the buffer tube connected to a Law Tactical folding stock adapter.

Ergonomically, I found the rifle a little hard to handle in the field. My hand got a little torn up by the Pic rail the first time I took it out hunting. I decided to put a Magpul c-grip on the bottom rail, and that absolutely transformed the handling of this rifle.

The magazines for this thing are some of (if not) the best in their class that I have ever handled! I'll admit though, loading them into the mag well took some practice to nail down (I kept dropping them out through the other side that I loaded them from lol), but they're designed in such a way that it becomes a non-issue once I got the technique down.

Ammo - it's a laser beam with all 40-50gr pellets, but I knew the TJ barrel would shoot 60+ grain NSAs and Varmint Knockers extremely well, and sure enough I decided to dedicate 62gr (BHN-7) VKs and the 65.5gr NSAs to this rifle full-time. I can tune it to shoot the 62's around 900, but I decided to setup my rifle to shoot them around 850fps for a more optimal shot count.

The key benefits that make this rifle stand out to be are:

  • Durability
  • Extremely stiff barrel / shroud
  • It ALWAYS returns to zero after barrel removal
  • Overall build quality gives it the feel of a well made firearm more than anything else
  • Durability once again!!!

The factory moderator has some bark to it. Mr. Neil Clague made a custom moderator for it, and I have had good success quieting the rifle down with it. I also found Donny's adapter with the short and stubby Tatsu works wonders. For extreme silence, I can go full broomstick mode with the Ronin + extension.

Some photos and video that I shot of it (I don't record any of my hunts):
