My AAA EVOL 30 Setup

It looks like you can use the same spanner on the barrel nut.

At least the barrel nut that is visible at the rear of the shroud looks similar in size to the buffer tube castle nut.

Don't use an AR wrench on the barrel - I learned the hard way after marking it all up. :( I got a spanner like Tom mentions above and it works much better.

mtnGhost - great looking setup.

One thing you could try regarding the noise is to put the air stripper piece back on, put a wrap of wire and felt in the section between the airstripper cone and the Donny adapter, and then screw the DonnyFL adapter into that. I am using a Shogun on my EVOL .22 Mini and adding that airstripper piece back and felt did help. I think it forces more air back into the shroud.

Thanks Tom! Found one at McMaster Carr that's 30mm with 4mm pin which seems close enough to make it work.

Are they really that loud? Or are you guys looking for silent performance? I guess I'll find out soon enough myself but I feel like they can't be that bad. My WARP had a decent pop to it and thought it was perfectly fine for my needs. But again I don't need quiet as long as long as it's not hearing protection loud which my .22lr isn't even.

They aren't really that loud, the moderator/shroud is a "system" that works and keeps the gun tame. Definitely don't need hearing protection. I use mine in the open field and have little concerns with noise levels. I think in many cases airguns may be louder to the user where 30 yards downrange sound like nothing. Places like a backyard where you may have feedback from surroundings such as walls, fences and buildings they appear louder.

No they're not really that bad, my noise restrictions are much higher than others. I'm at the I need it really quiet end of the spectrum. And what Dana said above it true - I'm shooting in a tree lined backyard that's ~50yards long by ~20yards wide. I get a lot of noise thrown back at me, but I also assume others that live next door get some noise thrown into their yards too. It's also a very quiet area so pops and noises like that really stand out.

We have new 22 moderators. They are a collaboration between us and STO. AAA made housing and STO core designed specifically for the EVOL 22. They are extremely quiet and still very compact.

STO put a lot of effort into the core design using the their extremely precise measuring equipment and our housing is designed to perfectly match the EVOL barrel system with perfect concentricity. Additionally, the new moderator is full backwards compatible with existing units.

If you need more, a larger third party unit may may offer some further reduction but I'm very confident that the new unit will be more that adequate for the most sensitive environments.

30 caliber moderators are next in the development cycle.

Thanks Dana that's what I figured. I shoot on our farm and at our house but we're in the country and people regularly shoot shotguns rimfires and pistols and such so noise is of no real concern for happy neighbors like I'm sure many many others it is

Tom - how would we go about ordering one of these. Would be great to get one for my .22 Mini and not have to stick an 8 inch tube on it. I have the STO moderator for my Leshiy and it is pretty amazing - those STO guys have taken moderator analysis and development (if you read through their blog which is like a novel) to a whole new level.

I'm thrilled to hear about that! I've been very intrigued by STO and to hear about that collaboration is exciting. I definitely want to keep it compact which is why I didn't want to replace the stock one but knowing there much more improved now that's awesome!

Congrats on the Evol! A few questions...

- Where did you purchase it from? Direct from AAA or AoA?

- How long did it take?

- What's the barrel length?

- What's the dry weight on it with the factory moderator?

I got it from AoA, I felt very lucky that they had one in stock. Barrel is 18", I can't remember exactly what the weight of my rifle is.. this gen3 Law Tactical adapter is a big chunk of CrMoly steel weighing over a pound lol, but I want to say overall it's 8'ish pounds unscoped. I can verify that soon.

Thank you

Do you feel a little more barrel length (say 22i-24 in) would help with the heavier slugs? Velocity and stability

I would say 20" max, but @slayer managed to design these to be extremely efficient and ammo agnostic with such a small plenum chamber + shorter barrels. Anything longer than 20" and I would want a larger plenum chamber (but then you get into the problems of weight and barrel droop going beyond that). Just my $0.02!

don't know if the accuracy of .22 is the same as it

I've heard positive things about the 22 and HPS, but I can't speak for them personally. All that I can say is my EVOL 30 is the most accurate 30cal that I have shot to date.

I was screwing around with it recently, retuned it for pellets briefly and ran my 7-35 glass, and then I changed it back for hunting mode with one of my LVPOs and the slug tune. Brought it out yesterday to confirm zero, I don't usually have to touch my turrets, but I set my reg slightly higher than I usually have it set (ultimately tuned now for 870fps / 62gr).

That little +20fps allows me to extend my effective holdover range to right about 200m now. It's extremely tough trying to do precision-style shooting with an 8x optic on an airgun at longer range, especially in the rain with very gusty winds, but this EVOL was able to print sub-MOA at a little under 200m yesterday shooting them at 870. I shared some photos on IG today: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGicIQ8hsys/?igshid=w3hmcbfp1k8o

I thought this would be a 150m rifle with that ammo and glass, but it can clearly hold its own even further out!
