My AAA EVOL 30 Setup

I spent a little time on figuring out how to setup this rifle, and what ammo to shoot from it. Decided that it would suit me best as a hunting rifle for larger small game (up to raccoon size) out to 150m, and coyote size game inside of 100. Collapsable / adjustable stock with a flat spot for rear bag was in my list, so I wound up putting a Magpul SL on the buffer tube connected to a Law Tactical folding stock adapter.

Ergonomically, I found the rifle a little hard to handle in the field. My hand got a little torn up by the Pic rail the first time I took it out hunting. I decided to put a Magpul c-grip on the bottom rail, and that absolutely transformed the handling of this rifle.

The magazines for this thing are some of (if not) the best in their class that I have ever handled! I'll admit though, loading them into the mag well took some practice to nail down (I kept dropping them out through the other side that I loaded them from lol), but they're designed in such a way that it becomes a non-issue once I got the technique down.

Ammo - it's a laser beam with all 40-50gr pellets, but I knew the TJ barrel would shoot 60+ grain NSAs and Varmint Knockers extremely well, and sure enough I decided to dedicate 62gr (BHN-7) VKs and the 65.5gr NSAs to this rifle full-time. I can tune it to shoot the 62's around 900, but I decided to setup my rifle to shoot them around 850fps for a more optimal shot count.

The key benefits that make this rifle stand out to be are:

  • Durability
  • Extremely stiff barrel / shroud
  • It ALWAYS returns to zero after barrel removal
  • Overall build quality gives it the feel of a well made firearm more than anything else
  • Durability once again!!!

The factory moderator has some bark to it. Mr. Neil Clague made a custom moderator for it, and I have had good success quieting the rifle down with it. I also found Donny's adapter with the short and stubby Tatsu works wonders. For extreme silence, I can go full broomstick mode with the Ronin + extension.

Some photos and video that I shot of it (I don't record any of my hunts):

Very impressive, how do you like the trigger compared to your taipan? I’ve always been curious about the aaa guns.

It's good, but I'm not picky about my triggers (as long as they're 2 stage and not too light). This one is adjustable, but I haven't touched it at all.

Congrats on the Evol! A few questions...

- Where did you purchase it from? Direct from AAA or AoA?

- How long did it take?

- What's the barrel length?

- What's the dry weight on it with the factory moderator?

I got it from AoA, I felt very lucky that they had one in stock. Barrel is 18", I can't remember exactly what the weight of my rifle is.. this gen3 Law Tactical adapter is a big chunk of CrMoly steel weighing over a pound lol, but I want to say overall it's 8'ish pounds unscoped. I can verify that soon.

What tools are needed to tear it down? That's not my intentions to need to but when an oring needs to be replaced would be nice to know what's needed to tear it down. I know standard Allen wrenches but I heard something about an AR armorer's wrench being needed for something?

Standard hex wrenches, a 3/8 socket / wrench to bleed from the burst disk (be extremely careful), and a spanner to remove the barrel. The standard armorer's wrenches are too large for the barrel. At least the Brownells wrench that I used on my ARs. I just use my Mutlitasker 3 (like a Leatherman for ARs). And forget about the Phillips on the end of the PRS stock - it screws it into the buffer tube.

Wow nice set up! I've always wanted one of those AAA's. You try and VK 50gr, I and others had great luck with those too.

Yeah, they're decent on calm days, but I have to shoot heavier slugs with a higher BC for the winds in my neck of the woods. I rarely shoot under 75y, and if there's one certainty when I hunt - it's 20+ mph wind 😭

There is a castle nut that securess the AR buffer tube to the receiver extension or the folding mechanism.

That nut would require an AR armorers wrench to tighten or remove properly. You can do it with a punch and drift it on and off, but it tends to bugger up the castle nut something awful.

You can buy a spanner specifically for that nut if you do not have an AR wrench.
