I put this on three different videos so if there is an area of stock finishing you are well versed in you can skip over it .

    Joe,
Thanks for the shout out !!!

Got my unglamorous Win333 stock ammonia fuming as we speak. Won’t be nearly as pretty as yours, but will be better than it was.

Hope the Minwax Antique Oil got close to the shine you like. Doubt it could ever be as glossy as True Oil, a nice satin seems to hide handprints better though which I like.

BTW your stellar prep work would make a coat of Elmer’s Wood Glue look good !

Thanks a TON Kip seriously !!! The MinWax finish came out great . I am like you and don’t think it will come to that Laquered type shim ..But it has a deep sheen and it looks great in person.

Spicing up your technique I see. The stock is looking better than ever. Pretty darn slick.

When talking oil finishes, I was old school for a long time, using only Pure Tung Oil or BLO.  When the internet came along I finally broke out of the box myself and haven’t stopped experimenting.

Joe your videos are always fantastic.  Little less crotch shot next time though :)

Very informative videos!  And I notice that you live up to the word “a lot of patience, but less is enough when it comes to ingredients”.

Thanks for those videos! The stock looks really nice. I have been procrastinating doing the stocks on two guns that my Dad left me. I will give them a go now, like you said it’s just a piece of wood. If I goof up no harm done, I can try again. There is something about a nicely finished wood stock. There’s a Weatherby Vangaurd w/a walnut stock at WM that’s been catching my eye every time I go in there. I don’t need a 30/06 but it’s so pretty…

There was a BSA R10 on one of the classifieds the other day with a piece of wood that made me wannq get back in PCP guns .
