mutant air leak

There is a special tool for this being a VERY thin wall socket that just fits the radial gap surrounding the gauge face.

There is a WORK AROUND that i have done time to time that works great when correctly applied.

* This involves TWO pins ( Can be drill shanks ) You find what size allows 2 semi snug fitting pins to be put into the gap around face at 180* apart.

Once pins ( Or drill shanks ) are in place, take it and place in face down in a SMOOTH JAW vise having said vice squeezing and holding the pins as close to the gauge face as possible. That done with firm yet low torque turn the tube or end cap CCW and the pins will wedge on the flats of gauges side and it will unscrew.

DONE CORRECTLY THIS WORKS ... if pins can not be held firmly and square they will bend or break.

I have no liability in someone doing this ... only sharing it can be done effectively.

+1 to you Scott. Good info and I don't even own a Taipan yet.

Is the procedure the same as the Veteran?

In a pinch one could use the procedure on near any " Air Tube end" blind access pressure gauge using straight threading with an o-ring seal.

* Sadly those that would use a tapered pipe thread and teflon tape / dope are FAR TO TIGHT and this procedure won't work with those.
