Mrodair P-12

I am looking for a new gun and came across this P-12. I am pretty new to the PCP side of this airgun hobby and in looking at the guns and prices this one would fit the bill price wise and as far as what the paper data looks like.

Does anyone have any first hand experience using this gun? I am looking for something in a .25 cal, but would settle on a .22. For a bullpup this seems like half the cost of the others. Obviously this is a world where "you get what you pay for", but as an entry level PCP gun will this cut the cake? I am looking for something backyard friendly that isn't an airhog. Can these be suppressed? If I am reading correctly, it looks like 30 FPE from the muzzle in .22 which would be more than sufficient in dispatching crowd and squirrels. Not so sure about the raccoons, but I'll deal with that later.

More or less, is it a shooter for the price? Obviously accuracy is about top on my list of "needs"

That gun is a work in progress. Not sure if they have the magazine ready to go yet. It may be still a single shot. Time you add up all the extras you might be in the range of other guns. Ted did do a positivre review on this gun, but I would prefer to deal with a more tried and true rifle and dealer. The verdict may still be out so there is some risk going with this gun. A cheaper bull pup new on the market is the Krosa. Again the extras like a moderator and regulator (which I would purchase) bring it up over a grand. I talked to R & L Airguns and they are getting a new shipment in soon. There are only a few reviews out but first look has my attention. Check out all the threads on the Wildcat, Vulcan, and Cricket bullpups on this forum. There is a used Cricket .25 for sale in the used gun section. Guns are added all the time. You can contact Batman, he may have a rifle that would suit you. I think the guy has three safes full of air guns!
Hope this helps.

If you look up Cliff Allen and check his accuracy posts. He has pics of the Fx Royal, AA510s, and the HM 1000 which all have rave reviews. He has some great groups to show what can be done at 50 yards. The Air Arms fills below 3000 psi, not sure about the other two. If you want to do bench rest, I guess the RAW is the go to gun. But the FX Royal also shoots great so…………. Good luck with your quest. Enjoy the research process! I want a .25 but need a compressor first so I am savoring the process. I THINK I am down to the Krosa and the RAW HM 1000 in .25 (but then there is the Vulcan and the Wildcat, and then the AA 510). I plan on driving to Pueblo or Pheonix to check them out this fall.
Best regards,
Doc

Thanks for the replies team.
I didn't want to be that guy that worries about country of origin, but I am... The China thing kind of bugs me too... But then again the Evanix I like is a Korean gun, so I don't know. Lol.

"A work in progress" NMShooter, that's kind of what it was looking like the more I started to read into this after posting. I can see where this has potential I think, but I too would add the regulator and a moderator, so I see where this is creeping up on a "tried and true" gun.

Gosh, being so new to this is incredibly frustrating. Half of me wants to just buy a tuned super crazy over the top gun and the other half of me wants to do it myself. My problem with that is having ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA/CLUE/DIRECTION/WHATEVER about how to tinker with these.

I did PM Batman and asked him what he had in the $800-1000 range, so it will be interesting to see what he replies. I wish I would have been ready to bite the bullet when he first posted everything.

Is there a direction I should face to where I am looking at a shrouded 30-40FPE magazine fed rifle where I DON'T have to do anything to it? Just a plug and play 25+ shots, 30+ FPE, backyard friendly air gun where I don't have to add anything for $1000, ideally less?

WOW! That Krosa is SWEET. Looks like they aren't in stock at the moment. If they were I would buy it hands down right now. Maybe I'll look around and see if I can find one in stock. Thanks for showing me that NM. For getting it shooting in a sane manor, I think I can handle cutting two coils off of the hammer spring. It certainly sounds easy enough.

I was was watching Wild West Airguns video, did I hear him say it comes with an included moderator? Not that you really need one. 85db without it is amazing.

snake: there is a link someone posted where you can get the marauder .25 for $457 from Walmart! Smoking good deal on it, but that's not enough shots for me and I really don't like the looks of it.

I I know it sounds goofy, but looks count in my book. I had originally wanted and was going to buy the Marauder and then I bought the Pistol in .22 instead and haven't even charged it yet. I don't like it. I don't like the way it looks, I don't like the way it comes to shoulder. I don't like the power, I don't like that I have to add to the stock for a better cheek weld. I just don't like it. Now I know the rifle is a completely different story, but I just don't want to do it. I see myself adding way to many extras to justify the value of the rifle. Shot count is also big in my book and it would seem you just can't quite get their with the Marauder.

As far as a budget friendly hunter goes. This would certainly fit the bill. I am half tempted to buy the .25 Marauder from Walmart for the $450 just in case I DON'T find what I am looking for at least I can settle on a .25 I got for cheap that will shoot lights out like I want.

I I don't have a choice at this point. I have two fill tanks on the way, pellets coming, a gun case, a gun bag, I have an active bid on a bench and I dream about it now... I'm screwed! Lol.

I think R & L are including a new spring with it. wildwest may be doing the same. This is a new gun on the market but is backed by an establish dealer who will back up the product. The modifications are minor. The only real negative thing was how the magazine fit. You may want to inquire about that. If you go with the synthetic model you can keep the costs under or right around a grand. Looks promising for a hunting bullpup.

Edit: Talon Tunes also sells this gun. Several dealers are offering free shipping so check around!

The P-12 is extremely well designed, well made, and worthy of your consideration. I had the same concerns you expressed about buying any PCP that is made in China. However, I was fortunate enough to have a local friend buy one and show it to me. The only clue that it
is made in China is the beech wood blond stock. There is very little "tuning" required and both my friend's and my own P-12 shoot exceptionally well in stock factory form. The current Mrodair P-12's incorporate many improvements over the sample Ted tested nearly a year ago. Now the P-12 can be ordered as a 10 shot magazine fed bullpup that uses Crosman Marauder magazines. Mrodair is advertising a new LDC specifically designed for the P-12 that can be customized in lenght since each baffle section is threaded. Velocity can be adjusted simply by turning an adjustment screw in the rear of the receiver which adjusts the hammer spring tension. Even if you purchased a P-12 with the 10 shot magazine option and an LDC, the cost is well under $1,000. My P-12 is an excellent value and shoots as well as any rifle in my PCP collection. It has a titanium air tube and the fit and finish of the metal parts is as nice as other bullpups costing twice as much or more as the P-12. If you want an affordable bullpup, the P-12 will not disappoint you.

Humdinger, glad to hear you have had a great experience with this gun. Sounds like he may have perfected the gun. I looked at this rilfe several months ago and it seemed like he was still working all the wrinkles out. I have not seen any reviews since so I am still a little "gun shy". Be nice to see you post a review on this gun!
Thanks for the update,

Doc

I bought a P12 from Mike in Malvern at the end of April this year. I saved it to shoot on my vacation in July. My gun has Mike's basic tune. I really like my gun. I have not done any testing with it yet but I was hitting a 1" spinner at 40 yards about 8 out of 10 shots off a less than ideal rest. I believe Mike when he says that it will shoot 1/2" groups at 50 yards. I do need to tune the trigger which does not come pre-adjusted with the basic tune, shoot a long string over the chronograph, and do pellet testing. That is going to have to wait a couple of months until the Texas heat starts to fade.

I like single shot rifles better that repeaters so I like the basic gun. The only real change I would prefer would be a cocking lever instead of a cocking bolt.

i would make the purchase again and recommend the P12. Mike is a really nice guy and gives me confidence to buy this Chinese rifle.

I know a couple of people over here who own one and are quite pleased with it, and although the low price point is also a reason for that, it's definitely not a bad airgun at all. People started importing them here (Belgium / The Netherlands) when the first version was released. Easy to tinker with, so that's what happened. A multi-shot breech was developped, using a Marauder magazine (I believe Mrodair manufactures that breech now), and flaws were reported directly to the Chinese manufacturer. The factory was quite happy with this feedback and immediately made some changes - a nice quality of Chinese factories nowadays, they communicate directly with customers and actually lísten.

If you want a nice platform with more or less limitless tweaking options, it's definitely a nice airgun. I've seen a lot of caliber conversion, for example. A regulator is a nice option too. But you need some skills for that, or know someone who has them :)

Here's a movie of a Dutch conversion project (ppl involved with the multi-shot design), in .25. Spoken in Dutch but with English text. Kind of raw footage, but still interesting. The airgun shoots at a constant 294-295 meters per second (967 fps).

Swing360 in answer your question the P-12 has a slotted 3/4" screw in the rear of the receiver that adjusts hammer spring tension to control the velocity. You can tune the gun to as low as 700 fps or as high as 1050 fps using 15.9g JSB's. I added the HuMa regulator to my gun and am getting 65 consistent shots per fill between 903-907 fps before it falls off of the regulated pressure which is set at the factory at 130 bar. I only fill my P-12 to 210 bar. Therefore you can have anywhere from 18 ft. lbs up to 32 ft. lbs of energy just by adjusting the hammer spring pressure. Mrodair included 3 different strength hammer springs with my P-12 so I can use a chronograph and dial in whatever energy and velocity I like.

In answer to NMshooter, I purchased my P-12 in December of 2014. Mrodair calls it the generation 4 release. There have been no changes to the gun since I bought mine. The wrinkles have been worked out. There will always be changes forthcoming to anything you buy but this is not an unrefined design with major changes necessary for you to enjoy it now. I definitely feel that the P-12 gives more bang for the buck than any other bullpup. If they put a walnut stock on this gun and it was marked made in Europe, people would pay double the asking price for it and wouldn't bat an eye. I am an air gun snob and HATE cheaply made air rifles. This rifle in no way has any crude metal construction that would label it as made in China. Even the European and Russian competition doesn't use titanium in the air tube that the P-12 uses. What does this mean? No worry of moisture corrosion and higher strength titanium has much less chance of failing under pressure. Mrodair has made sure the factory uses highest quality O-ring seals so leaks are less likely. The gun is super easy to take apart and change O-rings. It reminds me of the Benjamin Marauder in that regard. Very user friendly.

Mine has shot 1/2" groups at 50 yards many times. The only PCP I own that can outshoot it is a Daystate Wolverine SE.22 which costs 3.5 times more than a P-12.
I prefer a single shot bullpup so the only modification I'm looking forward to is an LDC which is due out soon.

I bought a P-12 after visiting Mike at MRodAir (I live about 1hr 45 min from his shop as it turns out). Got the multi-shot modification and Mikes tune (he completely disassembles the rifle and replaces the O-rings and tunes to your stated pellet wgt and muzzle velocity. He replaces the factory spring so it shoots less hot. You get the stock spring and O-rings in a bag with the gun in case you want to use them later. This gun will shoot way fast if you ask it to) The stock O-rings are OK but why not start with premium, brand new, personally inspected ones from the start. My shooting is mostly 20 yards or so from my kitchen table and I have no trouble putting pellet on pellet at that range shooting .22 JSB 18.13 gr . I air up at 170 bar and shoot down to about 110 bar after about 40 shots or so at around 920 fps! I have the de-pinger installed and not the regulator: don't see the advantage really for the price. Gun acts like its regulated with it. You can fill cylinder completely if you want and get many many shots/fill but the sweet spot chrony string is between 160 or 170 and 110 bar.
I like this gun and at a "lunch for two" under $850, custom tuned, inspected and shipped Conus, its a bargain. And it includes one mag.
Did I mention light weight? Yeah, that too.

I bought one at the Malvern show shortly after David Enoch did, after talking with more experienced guys who shot & evaluated it. Glad I did! - Same end results as "Jama" above reports. I pumped it up to 210 BAR trying to see how many shots I could get, but discovered that the sweet spot is just like he says, so these things with Mike's tune, ARE NOW a stable refined compact, lightweight little BARGAIN. The only negative I have discovered is when filled to 200BAR or above, it has a tendency for hammer bounce, which bugs me right next to my ear... just a pesky little noise in an otherwise gem. But then, I have excellent sensitive ears, using hearing protection all my adult life. Oh, the basic shroud HAS a tuned LDC already and I find it nice & quiet for backyard, neighbor friendly use, when adjusted for that. As I bump it up for more hunting power, naturally it puts out a little more muzzle report, but still quieter than I expected compared to the stock .22 Marauder a friend owns. That new extended improved shroud MRodAir is working on will get more of my money... can only get better, helping me maintain stealth as I stalk vermin in the garden.

Super easy to work on & adjust to whatever you want - back yard plinking, target, or hunting. Mine is for pest eradication around 32 FPE, so I've been playing around with various pellets & weights in single shot mode. I bought the multishot breech but haven't had time to install it yet - very nice, easy to install based on the YouTube video, compatible with Marauder (cheap!) magazines.

Take a look at the MRodAir vids on YouTube. Follow his recommendations.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL5oG9izVrxRtTLbDW4xzDg/videos It is .22 cal - no .25 from the factory in the foreseeable future per Mike. But I am quite pleased with what it is currently; at this price I was able to top it with the impressive new illuminated Hawk specialty air rifle scope! Best accuracy to date was a 6 shot group 0.40" @ 50 yards with Crosman brown box Premiers, using a Caldwell cradle rest. Wasn't using my chrony & I didn't record my settings so fat chance of repeating it any time soon. I average around 50-60 consistent shots per fill to approx. 180 BAR, down to 100 BAR where they drop off. Amazing performance for an unregulated PCP, IMHO.

Bottom line: Lots of really great AG's to choose from today; this one works well for me at a super deal to boot.

Yea NM, you aren't kidding... As much as I appreciate all the replies you all did NOTHING for making my decision any easier... I hope you all know that :) after much much debate though, I will be going with the JKHan Krosa. Depending on how much my wife likes it I may get her the P-12 as it's a few pounds lighter and then I win twice. I should have known deciding to go PCP was going to be expensive. I metal detect like some of you shoot and collect guns. My last machine set me back $3300, but I love it! This is quickly becoming like that, but that's my fault. :) when the zombie apocalypse comes I'll have the last laugh. Hahaha
