Moderator - side exhaust vents' effect on sound reduction?

Looks like a Huggett. 0db has side vents as well. They are well engineered, and nice & quiet. "Measurably more quiet those side vents?" Perhaps, but I haven't found them to be any louder to my ears with them.

I also have one of these:



It is on a Red Wolf HP .303. Even with the additional holes on the tip of this moderator, I cannot believe how quiet that big gun is to shoot.

Wrap it up with duct tape and let us know the results.

Huggetts are my favorite that simply work as-is not too heavy and threads on perfect and guns stay accurate.

@TMH what is the approximate size of that 0DB you have on the Red Wolf 303?

Sorry, but I can't figure out a good angle to photograph this, but be assured that the end of the rule is even with the muzzle end of the 0db. So about 6.75". O.D. at the muzzle end is just a hair over 1.25". Mine is the .30 cal version, but don't know if that makes a difference.

Summary - really effective in quite a small package. Now the Red Wolfs are known for efficient use of air, but mine is shooting up to 81 FPE at the muzzle (GC2/Safari electronics) and the sound of the round hitting my plastic trash can/rubber mulch trap 50+ yards down range is significantly louder than the muzzle report.

I don't have too many to compare. A 0db on my Wolverine a standard Hugget on my Regal. And TKO on my P-rod but the other day I bought a Atom Huggett to try on my Taipan it works great! I swapped it out with my 0Db and shot a few. And the little Atom is quieter to my ear and a sound phone app. I was very happy with the purchase. And it looks good since its the same diameter as my shroud.
