This is a start for Montana to get into air gun hunting. Definitely hope it passes we have a lot of turkey in my area, and will hopefully open up hunting for more game with air guns in the future.

HMMM ? PBA pellet is harder than lead and @ 1250 FPS . will a PBA pellet harm the barrel ? Will it fly stable , not tumble @ 1250 or greater ? is anybody else making PBA pellets ? Gamo is all i found

when replying i googled PBA Pellet to find what it meant . answers i got said a hard mix of no lead material . Thankyou for correcting me .

PBA just means lead free. JSB has some options, but they are generally lighter. So easy to get those velocities in any half decent air rifle. Accuracy, depends on your gun I suppose.

I find it interesting that California, for example, allows anything above .177 caliber and lead pellets for turkey season. Maryland and Virginia also allow airgun turkey hunting but not sure the specifics.

I would probably prefer a .25 to shoot turkey just because I have better guns in that caliber.

Hmm, 24 foot pounds in .177 and likely about the same in l.22. Reasonable for head shots, might be a bit light for body shots. If there is a comment period seek clarification and amplification so that you can ensure the use of heavy (for caliber) pellets which will give adequate penetration on body shots. People are going to take them no matter what you do, you might as well ensure the rules are also fair to the turkeys.

They’re proposing to allow airguns for turkey hunting and one of the stipulations is a proposed requirement suggesting that a .177 shoot a minimum of 1250 fps? What!? 950 fps for a .22, ok I believe I’ve read about folks shooting in that range, but supersonic .177 shots? Not only do I wonder about the stability of the projectile at that speed, but the sound will negate one of the advantages that airgun hunters hold. Can the supersonic crack be mitigated with a moderator? I’m really green in this area but this reads extremely odd even to me.

I am in Colstrip currently and originally from up by Scobey area.

I worked on the power plant in 1975-76 when it was under construction. My first time out west from NC. Nice people. First time I ever saw a truck plugged in.

Thats really cool, I started on units 1&2 in 2007 and now they are shut down I am working over on 3&4 in the water treatment. Hopefully they last alittle longer as it's a great town and place to raise kids.

Well, I have to admit it is a good thing, but whoever did their rules of min requirements truly doesn’t know much on airguns. They are using just “impressive numbers”. Idaho for certain categories specifically said only the use of PCP air rifles is allowed, plus minimum FPE not FPS, and the later should be used not the former. Maybe Idaho should have a talk with Montana on clarity of regs.
