Measuring length of pull

G'day Folks,

I am fairy short [5' 7"] and stocky in build from many years of gymnastics and teaching physical education. I have been having trouble shooting some of my more powerful Weihrauch rifles, especially my two HW 90s in .20 calibre with consistency. Frankly I never feel comfortable with them and am always squirming and fidgeting, hence I can group all over the place in a sequence of say 10 shots. The rifles are as well tuned as I can make them, barrels clean and are shooting consistently through my chronograph. The standard length of pull [LOP] seems to be about 14.5" ex-factory for mass-produced rifles as are both HW 90s. I measured my 10M target rifles and the LOP tends to be from about 12.9" to 13.5" - they are very comfortable for me. The issue of shouldering rifles and placing the butt into the "pocket" is also affected for me by a collar bone broken into multiple pieces in 1993 when out training on my bicycle - I used to race bicycles and broken collar bones are common - so there is a very limited space for the butt due to how the bone set toward the [distal] end of the collar bone.

My question is how to measure LOP. There are a number of methods discussed on the Internet, but I would like the hear from shooters here about how they might have solved this issue. Using the method of bracing a ruler in the crook of the elbow under the biceps and measuring to the pad of the trigger finger I found the distance to be 13.5". Are there any other reliable methods? If I have to cut a rifle stock I want to be correct the first [and only!] time.

Thank you,

Jim
