Tuning Maverick pellet probe alignment with Huma pin probe

I know this subject has been discussed before:

https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/wildcat-maverick-probe-adjustment/

I have a slightly different issue. I installed a Huma pin probe. It is not adjustable as to how far out the pin sticks. The pin sticks out slightly after the gun is cocked and the lever released, and the magazine cannot be inserted. If I hold the handle all the way back while inserting the magazine, it works. Should I bother looking for a solution or just hold the lever back while inserting the magazine? The pin probe in the slug power kit comes with a screw in the back which allowed you to lengthen/shorten the pin. I don't think they are available in .30 caliber though, that's why I went with the Huma.

The problem with the pin probes is that there is a larger variation of slugs lengths and how can you make the probe generic to work for all. If you decide for a certain Brand and length you can eventually cut the pin to that specific slug. I don't see any other way around. Or, yes, there is a way...order a adjustable pin - custom probe from your lathe guy.

I had this exact same issue with my wildcat MK3, Swapping out the factory pin or pellet probe. As you’re aware they use the same equipment. The humor probes and the factory probes are the same length total, however the hole for the screw pin on the probe is in a different spot, slightly forward on the humor probe. This has caused humor to be about 1 mm too long. I thought for sure I was doing something wrong, adjusted everything from the body of the gun to pellet pro length within the block. But no matter where I put the pin or pellet probe it always ended in the same position when cocked. I called huma and they are aware of it but don’t seem to be in any hurry to change anything. Once I noticed that the hole on the pro was in a different spot, I simply used some sandpaper and some time and slowly took off the 1 mm so the magazine would enter the gun without having to pull back the lever all the way which is not effective when hunting or needing to do a fast mag change. I had success with this and the gun is working fine now. As for the pin probe I just took off just enough for the magazine to clear when cocked normally. For the pellet probe once I had the 1 mm taken off I redid the centering of the pellet probe and the transfer port. Everything is lined up nice now and the gun is firing just fine.

Well that's impressive. Huma knows about the problem, but does not make anyone aware of it prior to purchase, or attempt to fix it. I guess I should not be surprised. I'll keep that in mind when considering my next purchase. Thank you for sharing your experience. At least I know I'm not having another senior moment, and you saved me hours of fiddling to no avail. I figured it would be switch calibers, live with it or shorten it, and you confirmed that.

..... I'll keep that in mind when considering my next purchase....

Don't worry ;) sooner or later you will go back to them again to buy the next trick....never say never...Huma is a good brand regardless you feel like you have to do some elbow greasing now for the money.

btw, that you pin (B8 probe) is for the longer slugs. Remove the long top plate (B14) and extend the probe holding block long rod (B19) for that 1mm how much you say - missing, and voila you just cleared the mag.

Edit: sorry I just realized you talking about Maverick, these my balloon numbers are from the Impact BOM, but you got the picture.
