My Maverick got a little exited today, so grew 4" in length going from 600 mm to 700 mm, but no measured increase in girth.

I am sure if a girl ever come to our range she would appreciate :)

The shroud coming up a tad short now i dont think look so bad, so i think i will not be looking for a longer one anytime soon.

The 100 mm extension to the barrel tube, had been opened and inspected by customs ( i assume as it come from the Netherlands and via regular mail ) My new barrel also come from down there and it travelling by GLS had seen no inspection by customs.

Eagerly awaiting better weather ( less wind ) so i can go test this new setup.

I have contemplated something decorative to close the gap, and i might well do that if i fall over something that just fit, CUZ i am very low of tools and my fabrication area is my living room table.

A longer / larger air bottle have also been on my mind for a while, but i think i am gravitating more towards replacing the old Hawke scope on my Vulcan 3

I mainly shoot tethered so a larger tank is not a big deal, and it is .177 so shot count are still okay.

That mod isent that more of a barrel tube tensioning than barrel tensioning, my understanding of barrel tensioning is that they make a thread on the barrel itself to "stretch" it. If you pull the barrel pipe longer wont the barrel itself just rattle inside as it is sort of free floating if it is not compressed by the end "caps".

BUT ! i am assuming here, and i am not always a expert in that.

I have a 5 foot by 5 inches OD piece of black plastic in my basement, got it a few decades back to make end caps for a equally large piece of clear plastic pipe i got, making my own reservoir for a water-cooled computer.

Just dont have access to a lathe.

I have also contemplated if i could completely loose the shroud, and then just beef up the barrel tube with carbon fiber tubing on the outside, but i have not looked at what the measurement are for the barrel pipe and what i can get in carbon fiber tube. I would imagine i would have to slide several sizes of CF tube over each other to end up on shroud OD

Also i am shooting .177, so probably not a lot of barrel harmonic "amplification" going on due to longer barrel,,,,,, but yes i will keep my eye on this for sure, and move on it if i feel like i have a problem.

well i fell into a sea of shppaholisem, so i soon have a 14 mm / 28 mm carbon shroud, so in theory i should have the worlds stiffest Maverick barrel with a 7 mm thick carbon fibre "wall" encompassing my barrel pipe.( not factoring the carbon fiber encompassing 600 M of the actual barrel already ) i have put the surplus 3 barrel O rings on the front 100 mm of the barrel.

The STD 600 mm Maverick can indeed push a 13.43 grain pellet or slug pretty darn fast, and probably faster than i have done ( 950 FPS ) though with the single hole transfer port that would probably require a higher reg pressure than i have ever attempted using ( i have only been to 110 BAR )

in the STD Maverick i have shot the 16 grain Beasts, and around 875 FPS they fly pretty darn well at that speedf, actually the best pellet performance i have found.

I am going to get a dual hole transfer port when Huma get them in stock, also a high power kit with spring and pin probe + 2 hammer weights.

CUZ i am going to get some of those 16 and 20 grain H&N slugs which require more kick in the behind that i do now, going to dual hole transfer port should up FPS with 50 FPS without touching the REG, and the 100 MM longer barrel i reckon give me a longer "launchpad".

That South African guy co developing the new H&N .177 slugs shoot with single hole transfer port but then using 150 bar as i recall, i would like to stay a little lower using a dual hole transfer port and pin probe.

Something tell me i probably will want to stay below 1000 FPS no matter the slug i am going to shoot.

The forecast for Saturday are 9.8 MPH average winds with gusts of 23 MPH, and thats seemingly as good as it is going to get here in the next 9 days.

So i am going to give the slugs a spin on 50 M and see what happen, and give 85 M a go if i feel things are stacking up really well at 50
