Marmot Militia barrels at last.

Today both my Marmot Militia barrels arrived. I had to wait until after work to do the swap, but once I did and saw the first groups from both at 25yds I have to say it was well worth it. Both the P-rod and M-rod went from being pellet picky and okay accuracy to shooting all my Air Arms and JSB pellets with so little variation its going to be hard for me to pick one to go with from now on. The ones I've tried so far are Air Arms 13.4, and 16gr. The JSBs are 15.89 and 18.1gr.

Looks like the only way I'm going to know for sure is to see just how well they all group at 40 and 60yds.

Great choice and welcome to the Marmot Militia side of the force. Sorry, Star Wars fan here. Anyway, these are the barrels you are looking for. Gosh darn it! Okay okay I'll get a hold of my trigger...
Anyone aware you have these barrels installed in your Benjamins will know that the force is strong with this shooter!!

That's pretty good value considering there are places who charge $150 just to machine a barrel blank and it costs over $200 for a Smooth Twist blank. By the the time you bought the blank, got it machined and paid for shipping, it's no longer worth it for entry level guns in most cases.

These guys have done of nice job of sourcing decent barrels at a price that makes it viable for marauder owners to upgrade their guns. They are currently the only game in town for upgrading $500 air rifles. For everywhere else, you end up concluding that you should just buy a better gun to start with.

I asked if they could machine one for an AT44 but they said they were too busy (no doubt filling orders for their excellent and well priced Marauder barrels). 

I used to wonder why so many air gun enthusiasts bought lathes and mills but it doesn't take long to realize that it's usually the only way to get aftermarket accessories in a timely fashion and at a reasonable price. Pretty much every machine shop I have ever tried to be a customer at has had a back-log of work that stretched well beyond my patience, or, charged prices high enough to explain their lack of work. 

The lack of options has even got me thinking about buying a lathe...

Mike Sayers is the barrel maker for TJ barrel liners. He makes blanks only. Jim buys blanks from Mike then machines them to fit marauder rifles, pistols, and the Flex and warp.

You can have Mike make you a custom hammer forged mandrel for what ever twist and bore dimensions you want. I believe they cost around $400. Not sure if Jim has had his own mandrel made and used to make the blanks he uses or if he just uses sizes and twist Mike has available?

That sounds like a good deal. I keep wanting to read about TJ barrels but I could never find a website for them.

I have had an interest in finding air rifle barrel liners to make carbon fiber wrapped barrels for a while now but finding a source for the liners and someone to machine them to fit one of my air guns was sufficiently difficult and frustrating that I have given up more than once. 

I'd like to try one of their barrels to see how they stack up against the CZ and LW barrels in my guns, I just have zero interest in going back to a Marauder action.

If I ever could make the stars align and TJ barrels turned out to perform as well as my other barrels, I would be able to make one super light air rifle.

"ajshoots"Mike is an old school guy. No website. I have owned a number of his barrels and the .25's and .30's are the best I have ever shot and that is head to head against LW, CZ, and ST barrels.

Keep in mind direct from TJ you get a raw Blank. I lap, polish, and machine my own now, so results may vary, but they have proven awesome for me!!

How the barrel is machined is just as important as the quality of the barrel itself. I'm sure you take more care machining your own than you get in a volume manufacturing environment. I guess the only way to tell would be to buy some LW or CZ blanks and machine them yourself to compare. 

I don't have a lathe n stuff so I would be relying on someone else (who probably wouldn't care as much about my accuracy as I would). 

I don't think any barrel maker is the best. They can all be accurate if you get one without defects and prep it properly. The LW barrels machined by Hatsan are an example of this. They produced very mixed results (apparently). There were more than a few people wondering why the LW barrel they bought didn't turn their AT44 into a Daystate.

I got some time to do sighting in today for the P-rod and its proving to be just as accurate as my AT44S was. At 25yds I got .30 inch grouping and under with 18gr JSBs and Air Arms. I'm sure its more accurate than that if that can be believed since I still haven't gotten use to the light trigger on the P-rod compared to my M-Rod's and BT65 .30 cal.

The M-rod is proving to be just as accurate with JSB 18's as well. At 40yds I was easily hitting the 1 inch sighting targets even though it was past sunset and the flashlight was losing its charge. After a magazine of trial and error I took it out to 60yds and managed to hit the cloths pins I use to hold my targets up.

Aside from the P-rod needing an LDC to quiet it down I'm having a hard time finding any reason to do anymore modifications to either gun.

I recently received my Marmot Militia barrels for my Mrod & Prod. I have only done an initial sight in with them but I have noticed an improvement in the accuracy - hoping it will get better as it breaks in. I also noticed that it takes more force to load the pellets in to breach than the factory barrels and I am wondering if anyone else has noticed the same?

Yes , my prod takes a bit more force.

The same here with my Prod's MMHF barrel, recently sold. You will also notice that, as a consequence of the tight choke, the MV is about 25-30 fps less when compared with the OEM Crosman barrel. Very accurate. Keep it clean!
