Now you went and made it harder to take a nap!!!! OK.. Now that I look at it it's not so bad. Just need rings. I'll do some research here and see what is recommended.

Warning.... bits and bobs can add up fast!

Thanks

More questions................

OK.... piggy bank was a little short and to keep the ball rolling I ordered the JDAirman 88ci(note...CI) tank, regulator and fill adapter. Better than nothing..... for now. Ordered on Friday and arrived today.
1. Should I put a little lithium/silicone grease on the seals before screwing it together?
2. Should I put plumbers tape on the threads?

Scuba shop said no go for the fill to 4500psi. They said they could go to 3500psi though. I might get them to fill it to as much as they can for a leak test since they are 5 minutes from the house.

I don't see a date on the tank? Are new tanks dated from the first fill?

GEEEEZ this is getting complicated.................!

Marauder is due Friday. YEA!!!!!

No instructions with the tank or on the website. It doesn't appear complicated.Knob on top (tank valve) says open/closed. Vent valve says open/closed. Small pressure indicator for those with 20/20 vision. From the first look I assume the following for filling the marauder..... please jump in if I have it all balls'd up....
1. Tank and vent valve closed. Should I open the vent to make sure no pressure is present?
2. Connect hose from tank to rifle.
3. Slowly open tank valve watching the rifle pressure indicator. Regulator is 2000 to 3000.... I assume it will open at 2000 and go up to 3000 as I open it more.
4. When the desired pressure is reached close tank valve.
5. Open then close vent valve to relieve pressure on the line.
6. Disconnect hose from rifle.

NOTE: I have used the word ASSUME a couple of time. I have not had good results with this word so I won't do anything until I get the OK from people who know.

When I have the proper sequence I'll print a copy and put it on the tank.

Hey! What happened to push button's?????? This is a push button world or am I dreaming.....

Thanks.........again.............

I use the 88 ci tank exclusively. You'll get 10 or so fills with that tank. It's small, portable, and it just works (I'm considering a second one, just because). when you said, Regulator with the tank, is that a valve or a 3000 PSI regulator? If regulator, that makes filling easy, as you can't over fill the Marauder.

For filling, look up videos by AEAC, he usually does the fill process for the gun he's reviewing. It's about the same for most PCP's and I believe PA has the same type of video available. Sounds like a lot of steps but once you do it, it's easy. Hook up, open valve, close valve, bleed / vent the line, disconnect, shoot 30 shots, repeat.

Enjoy the new gun. I still love to shoot my Marauder, great gun.

Saltlake58,

I bought the 3000 PSI regulator and the fill adapter with hose.
Do I use grease on the o-rings? Just a little? Also, do I use plumber's tape on the threads?

I have to look at the videos again but I think I have it figured.

Yea, tank is smaller than I thought but should work well and is super easy to transport. I'm going to get it filled by the scuba shop. He said he could go to about 3500 but when he see's the small tank maybe he'll go higher. At least I can test for leaks and maybe get a few shots in.
Marauder is due Friday.... I'm very excited to get going.....

Thanks for all your help!

Davecole.... I thought I'd be having fun last weekend too.... but not a chance.

Received the tank/reg/fill adapter and took it to the scuba shop to have them charge it as high as they could to do a leak test. They did a inspection and filled it to 2500 but when I got it home it was already down to 1500. Found the leak in the fill port. Took it out and the check valve was stuck and the 0ring was crushed. What a bummer! Glad I did it though cause the only place I could find to fill it to 4500 was 1 hour away.

I called the place where I ordered the tank and I'm getting a whole new reg/fill adapter and I have to send the old one back. Hopefully I'll be using the tank by next weekend.

The Marauder arrived with 1000 psi and never moved. I ordered a cheap e-bay hand pump and got a really good workout...... No need to go to the gym........ just grab the pump!

Pumped it to about 2800 psi and got about 20 shots thru it. Very nice gun and accurate! The wood model looks great but I kinda wish the synthetic was in stock but I'm getting to like the wood now that I have it. I used 7.9gr Crosman pellets for my first test. I understand the Crosman pellets work best in the Marauder so if anyone has suggestions to try let me know.

I'm very happy with the Marauder and glad I had everyone's help here to answer my questions and get shooting. Again... I thank everyone who read thru all my stupid questions and helped me make the right decisions.

Thanks to all again!!!

Airslave - I have the 88CI tank. At 3500 I get 4 or 5 fills on my Marauder. At 4500, I'll get 10 or 12 fills all depending. One way to extend your air is to hand pump to 2500 (maybe a little less depending on your stamina, for me, 2000 to 2200 is about my limit these days) and then use the tank. You do the easy work, let the tank do the heavy lifting.

Also, from the factory, the Marauder shoots best around 2800 on the high end, down to around 1800. In general, Filling to 3000 will actually slow your pellet speeds (sounds backwards, but yup, it happens). When the hammer hits the valve, at 3000, there's more pressure pushing back, so less air gets through. It tends to even out starting around 2800psi. Save the air and don't over fill.

Good shooting, keep us posted. We are all learning every time we shoot.

Saltlake58...... Thanks.

Good tip about the tank. I'll try that to extend my shooting.

I should get a chrono and not guess at what it's doing. I had heard it does not shoot at it's best at the upper end of the scale. I'll have to shoot it a lot more and experiment with psi and pellets to get the most out of it. By that time I'll be looking at doing some mods suggested everyone to make it better.

Well... so far I have learned there are check valves in the fittings. So even though I have run into a little problem, I have learned some. Just shows me..... I have a long way to go.

Thanks for the great advice.

OK.. I'm back for good now.

First, I appreciate all the help/suggestions I have received. Thank you.

Second, health problems have been kicking my butt. But(sic) I'm pressing onward.

Bought the Marauder .177 and it is a fantastic rifle. Accuracy and shot count are great. Really like it but wish it was regulated but not a big deal.

Bought a tank locally and it was a big mistake. Found a place to fill the tank 1.5 hrs away. The new tank I bought was over 2 years old. The guy at the store says no problem he can recert it but I should have been told. As we were talking the regulator blew apart. Scared us both really... really bad! When we recovered he examined it and it was some knock-off brand. I bought a new regulator from him. All has been fine since.

Health and covid put a damper on just about everything. The shop I went to is gone or under another name. Hand pump(Ebay Special) blew a seal but that turned out to be a good thing.

Bought a Vevor compressor (about a dozen different names for this compressor). It pumps the rifle only and not tanks. It works great and takes about 5.5 min to fill from 1500psi. I call it my fast hand pump.

My hunting partner received a Air Venturi Avenger .25 today so now I have a shooting buddy.

Again, thanks to everyone for your suggestions and help.

I wouldn’t hesitate to get a marauder. In fact I’m thinking about picking up a 25 cal myself. If I were you I certainly wouldn’t deal with the place you called. Any place employing someone to answer phone questions that is that much misinformed I would question. My first pcp was a 177 and I will probably never get another one. I would recommend you just go to the 22 caliber. It is less effected by wind and just much more versatile in my opinion.

Thanks. The place where I got the bottle/regulator is gone but so is the place to refill it. No scuba shop around that can or wants to.

The VEVOR compressor quit. What a disappointment... it was perfect for what I needed. I have to say VEVOR customer service was very quick to reply to my questions but unfortunately the repair is not is not likely. I don't see shipping it back to china and the VEVOR supplier in Huston(USA) is only a warehouse.

I'll take a partial refund and try to fix it myself. I'm looking for another compressor now. Back to researching compressors.... :)

For his birthday, I bought my hunting friend a Air Venturi Avenger .25Cal. Wow.. for the money it is a deal. It's super accurate, hard hitting with the JSB 39.95 pellets. My next choice for a .25 cal.

Thanks for your reply and support.

Thanks...

Got the refund. Vevor compressors might be worthless but the customer service is very good.

Now I'm stuck again having no way to pump air.

My needs are to pump direct and the one that quit fit my needs perfectly I won't be buying that type again. It was rated at 350 watts... I guess it's the motor load rating. It's just to low for this kind of pump.

The Yong Heng is rated at 1.8kw and can fill a Maurader in about 2 min. My old compressor would fill it in 4.5 minutes and sounded like it struggled to reach 3000psi.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting the Yong Heng because of the parts available to fix about everything. Also it is rated well above the what my needs are. Not as portable though. So... it leads me to ask this dumb question.... where can I find a YH hardcover model? I have searched and YH is manufactured by a few different places and they don't identify the model or call it different names. I just want a YH hardcover made by YH. I choose the hardcover because of the water separator or whatever they call it.

Can anyone give me some advice so my friend and I can get shooting again.

Thanks

I purchased my Yong Heng hard cover off the e bay from Besthomepro in November 2021. It was $250(made a couple offers) with free shipping. Tops my Marauder off in less than 30 seconds from 1600 psi to 3000 psi. I filled my 45 minute SCBA tank from empty to 4300psi as well. I only ran the Yonger 5 minutes at at time. Not sure how many 5 min sessions it was. Maybe 8 or 9? I've been pumping my gun by hand for 3 years. Kinda wish I got the Yonger sooner.
