Skip, my .25 Marauder is extremely accurate with the Green Mountain barrel. However, I can tell you from experience, a .30 will be much more effective in any kind of wind. Shooting at the Pyramyd Air Cup this year, I practiced with a friend's .25 Wildcat. Then switched to his .30 Wildcat for the 100 yd BR. The wind, as you know was blowing pretty strong. Had I not DQ'd on the first round, I think I would have finished well.
Although I'd like to shoot a EBR match I'm not willing to spend the money to purchase a good 30 cal rifle. It's mor of a project to see if it will work.
Yes, RusBear shot .22, but they were the .22 RD Monsters at 25.4 grain, which have a BC in excess of the .30 cal. 44.75 grain pellets. He was not shooting at any sort of disadvantage if that's where you're going with that?
Skip, if you can get your Marauder shooting the 34 grain Heavy .25 pellets at a decent speed, you'll be shooting with an equivalent pellet. You will be at a disadvantage shooting the JSB Kings however...
Centercut true I am just responding the the post before me that says .30 is much better in the wind. Where it’s not the caliber of the bullet but they BC. Think of 6.5 creedmore...
I’d say at least 835 to 840 FPS assuming the gun is accurate at that speed with the 34 grain heavies. If your gun can’t shoot inside 1.5 MOA at 100 yards, and preferably 1 MOA you’ll have a hard time shooting a good score. FYI, I could shoot ten 5 shot groups at 100 yards with my .30 and nine out of ten groups would be MOA or better in calm conditions. This high level of performance gives confidence when shooting that any misses are the shooter and not the gun...
