I do like the quality of the video when it's not slo motion. But I do love the slo mo as well. My next video will have a few more standard videos but I'll keep some slo motion in there. I'm sure my squirrel population will keep me in footage until the day I die. I do have a friend that wants me to come take care of some pests at his property, so hopefully I'll have some footage somewhere other than my backyard.
For tuning, I just stick with the A Teams version for high power. I have a .22 Marauder with a Marmot Militia hammer forged barrel. Shooting 16 grain Air Arms fields, I can average 900 fps over 30 shots with a 22 fps spread. Take off the last shot and it's an 18 fps spread. My marauder is now tuned to shoot 18.1 grain JSB's averaging 902 fps over 20 shots with a 20 fps spread. It's hitting hard and I'm getting below a half inch group at 50 yards. I can't ask for anything else from my Marauder.
BumbleB, I did a heart shot in my last video I believe. They just fall over and die. I rarely get the correct angle to take a good heart/lung shot, so I mainly stick to the head shots. You can check out my other videos here or on YouTube. AverageGuyAirguns is my channel. Thanks for the positive comments. It's what keeps me wanting to make these videos.
Love the slow mo shots where you see the flat trajectory of the pellet prior to impact superb .... Shot 2 is superb gotta love a bit of Squirrel shooting, they play a large part in my hunting in the UK
I do have a horrible amount of squirrels in my area. I've killed over 140 this year. I've eaten one and you could tell these squirrels are eating from the trash. I hunt for squirrel in the country and they taste delicious. I have a few feral cats running around and they are borderline morbidly obese from my offerings. The good side to it is I haven't seen a raccoon or opossum around in months. I believe the presence of the cats are keeping them away. I haven't noticed a decline in the population of squirrels in my area, so hopefully the cats and I can keep this relationship going for as long as possible.
Wow . . . where do you live to have all these squirrels? I would love to have that many targets to shoot at! I've thinned out the squirrel population around my house over the years and if I'm lucky, I'll get about a dozen squirrels to shoot at per year! You took out more than that just in this video alone!
I live close to town so there are thousands of squirrels in my neighborhood. City ordinance says I can shoot as long as they are causing damage and I am safe while shooting. I have no shortage of proof of damage. I've re screened my windows at least 3 times this year alone, had to replace my grill gas lines because they chewed them up. The squirrels have broke into my shed and demolished my outside furniture. At least once a week I'll find one or more causing problems so when I get a chance on the weekends, it's game on.
I just checked out our videos on Utube, outstanding!
Think I'll go out and get myself a shooting rest, in order to properly adjust my scope at all ranges. Looking at the Caldwell Matrix Rest, what kind is yours? Cheers.
Thanks for watching my other videos BumbleB. My wife got my shooting rest for my anniversary gift. Yeah, she's pretty awesome It's a Champion rest and she got it on sale at our local sporting goods store. It definitely does the job and it was cheaper than the equivalent Caldwell rest.
Helimech, I am going with the Caldwell Lead Sled Plus. The reason why I am going with the heavy duty rest is because I am buying a new 300 Win Mag soon which will be topped off with my Huskemaw 5-20x55 Blue Diamond scope and will be used to shoot moose and elk up to 1,000 yards, so I need a sturdy one to handle my powder burners as well as my new Nitro Venom. Here is a picture of one:
I can't wait to get it so that I can really learn more about my Venom's true potential with different pellets without shooting freehand which never really does produce consistent shots. With this rest I will be able to set and adjust my airgun scope out to 50+ yards, so when I am shooting critters freehand I will be very confident and will know where to aim for kill shots way out there, like the ones you take. I love watching those pellets fly in slow motion, liked the bowling pin squire shot, "lights out" lol!
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and happy shooting )
BumbleB, you won't regret getting the shooting rest. It is so nice to use and stay on target. Glad I could help out. I love this forum because there's a bunch of nice people willing to share their experiences and knowledge. I'd be lost without it. You have a merry Christmas as well.
